What's up with the prothean voice.

There is a Turian mechanic in ME1 who sounds like he is from the Bronx.
Tali sounds Eastern-European.
Han' Gerrel sounds English.
Shala' Raan sounds Iranian.
But a Prothean sounding African is a problem? Prothy isn't the first alien character in the game to have an identifiable human accent. So the issue here isn't really that he has an identifiable human accent, but rather that his accent is African. At the very least Eurocentrism is at work (most people probably don't know that Shala' Raan's VA is Iranian), and at worst, racism.

African is a language? That's more eurocentric than the jokes...

You didn't make a distinction between the many different African languages. Some African languages may have better fit the Prothean character than the one they used. You're being overly dramatic and I promise you, if he had an Austrian accent I would laugh about it just the same.

I didn't make a distinction between the many different Eastern European accents either when I mentioned that Tali sounds Eastern European. I was well aware that there are many different countries in Africa with may different languages and accents, just as I'm aware that there is more than one country in Eastern Europe.
If you need proof though, just go to this thread where I made specific mention of some of the different nations in Africa about 2 hours ago.
In short, your attempt at a 'gotcha' moment has utterly failed.

The prevailing theory is that Protheans influenced early human life. Early human life was in Africa. From what I gather, Protheans in this case don't speak with an African accent, Africans speak with Prothean accents.
As someone who does actual work in Sociolinguistics and language change, I can say with authority that this is 100% improbable in every way, even if the first sentence were true.
Oh yea? Do your xenoscience studies also extend to urban and agrarian?
I don't think you have any idea what I'm actually talking about, but yes, Sociolinguistics covers both urban and rural speech communities, and extensive work has been done on the history of African languages. The idea of a group of humans somehow inheriting a Prothean accent, and maintaining it over anywhere between 100,000 and 50,000 years is patently absurd.
I'm going to have to give a massive 'Who cares' to the Prothean's accent though. It's a sci-fi video game.
I... I was just trying to be hilarious

That Turian doesn't sound like he's from the bronx. Brooklyn is easily what they were trying to emulate, but he's not from the Bronx.
I agree with the rest. Wished Shala was a squaddie, her voice in hypnotic to listen to, and wouldn't mind a more experienced Quarian.

It just came to me all of a sudden, like I had touched a beacon made by the most hilarious species to have ever existed. And I was like "Yes, I must put this, it is my destiny. All who read it shall collapse in fits, tears streaming from their faces." I guess I was wrong, though

Sorry, some of the things being said in this thread are making me facepalm so hard that I couldn't pick up on irony.

Lol, nah, I'll be fine, I promise. I'm still proud of my joke. Actually, I was a tad disappointed that the African/Prothean theory could be so easily dismantled, at least relative to mass effect fields and other more scifi-type stuff, which would require a good bit of time and knowledge, I think. It just made sense to me, though, when I first heard his voice. Well, either way, I still really love the voice. I think it's unique and refreshing, and I'm looking forward to seeing our Brothean in a little while

It's not North African, you realize North Africans are Arabs (Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia etc)?
