I'd like to know how you can understand how he talks anyway since he's a Prothean. It's as if as soon as you bring him back to life the universal translator automatically updates to apply Prothean speech, even though we would only know writings and nothing about dialect, phrases, etc. all that stuff that makes true understanding of a language.

Maybe the explanation is supposed to be their translators use exactly the same technology as the ones made 50,000 years later.

And yeah G3rman, apply your own .gif to yourself please.

Everyone here who is against it is just racist. Not even joking. The first character that gets introduced with the accent and all you can do is hate on it because it doesn't fit your "perfect" vision of protheans.

I like it, its new.

You are a ****ing idiot. There is just no other way to put it; i'm sorry.

Pretty much what I was going to say.

So I guess most people would'nt complain if Prothy's voice sounded North American or European?

Thats been done waaaay too often. This is new and fresh, and the main reason some people hate it is because Prothy sounds African.

I dont know about the rest of your team, but Shepard actually understands Prothean without the aid of a translator due to having the Cipher from Shiala.

If you'll remember, on Ilos, Shepard could understand the recording of the ancient Prothean distress call but no one else could.

Here is a perfectly simple solution to what Bioware could have done with the voice.

This is how the Prothean could sound and at least be SOMEWHAT ALIEN.

www.youtube.com/watch

Using this (they already have the capability in their sound studio) they could make a unique sound to the prothean, even if he speaks English.

umm... no
1) that voice is compeletly wrong for a character that is suppose to be a good guy (might work for a villan)
2) it's barely understandable

As I have said before I like the guy's voice. It has a sense of grandious to it and it really fit his character design.

So because he doesn't sound Human, like a British upper class, or Chinese, or brazilian, or American, IE EARTH.
Then he is a villain, LOL.

I want him to sound ALIEN, nothing like us.
What I posted was an example, he was using a voice changer, it could be sounding anyway they like.

Hearing The Prothean speak like a stiff upper lip British, or African, or Asian etc etc, does not fit the character.

Thane has voice modulation to make him sound different, Legion has the Machine like pitch.
Krogans have that deep rumbling voice.

I would imagine a Prothean could sound extremely different to us, The Elcor sound different too.

This guy sounds like he's African, it does not make sense at all, I just picture an African in my head everytime I hear the voice, not an ALIEN.
If I heard the "stiff upper lip Brit" I would picture a guy with tea and scones with a Monokel on his one eye and a snobbish look.
Not an ALIEN.

Let me know when it sinks in what I mean...

Yes I understand you want him to sound alien, also I may have been I bit disrespectful sorry. In my mind as long as a character is speaking english, they will never sound alien so I just want them to sound good and to fit the character.

It's amazing how one accent can garner so much racist reaction in so little time.

1. It's not Jamaican, but if it was, those Jamaican jokes would be even more racist and inappropriate.

2. "An advanced culture wouldn't sound like that" Why exactly? Any culture that has it's own language is going to sound accented when it tries to speak one not it's own. The only reason many of the more advanced areas of Africa have less of an accent is because of British colonization.

3. "I just can't take that accent seriously." It's good to know BSNers judge people based on their accents. Hey guess what, that's also prejudice! I don't know about all of you but where I come from (NYC) there are many successful businessmen with all sorts of accents and no one cares what you sound like.

You guys need to broaden your minds and learn to accept unexpected developments in a character that many of you know nothing about to begin with.

ohhh ya that's right. Maybe throughout the whole game they'll make Shep the only one to understand him. I'd be impressed if they paid attention to that much detail.

The reason people hate it is because it doesn't sound alien at all.  Nice job trying to inject racism into your argument.

I fail to see anything other than racial implications in saying an advanced alien species shouldnt sound african, but that it'd be ok for a brute race like the krogan.

I wonder if we can get him to say Beer Can, without it sounding like he's asking for Bacon.

Did you read the post that byne is referring to? It literally insinuated that he didn't think that a black voice sounded advanced or sophisticated enough to be a Prothean. A krogan though, which in the Mass Effect universe has a reputation of being brutish, is fine.

Unbelievable. It's like no one has heard an accent before.

Neither does Tali, or Liara, or Kirrahe, or Wrex, or any alien on the council, or any volus.

But no one complained then. In fact no one has complained FOR TWO GAMES that none of the acents sounded alien enough, but now that there's an african voice bsn is up in arms.

That's because you're projecting your racism.  I don't like the voice because it sounds like Jacob's voice actor trying to be jamaican.

Maybe it's my fault for expecting an alien race from 50,000 years ago to sound something.....alien and not one of my crew members.

Please be so kind as to asign specific ethnic accents to the characters you just listed.
