What's up with the prothean voice.

So, in essence, everyone -is- speaking their own alien dialect, but Shepard hears it as English (or which ever language the player is playing on) and in turn, the player hears it in said human dialect.
The reason aliens don't sound alien, is more or less because the translator is matching the words to an audible accent that closest matches the alien pronunciation, but can still be recognizable by the Human ear.
Or I could totally be BS'ing this entire thing, because I made it up in a dream, but I sure felt smart typing it.

I do not like the same actor doing different voices or attempting to alter his voice when it is clearly the same person.
The ME games must drive you crazy then, because that sh*t happens all the time.

No idea where "africans can't/why can't africans be advanced" argument came from or why it even is relevant.
It wasn't directed at you. On page 2, someone said the African voice didn't fit an "advanced" species like the Protheans.

You're right about translators, femshep even mentions it in the Thane romance, but as discussed earlier, Shepard isnt using a translator to understand prothean, since s/he already understands it due to the Cipher, and is hearing the prothean as he actually sounds

Well, in that case, I'll abandon my ship and jump in the "Early humans actually sound like old Protheans" boat.

Reminds me of Doctor Who.
"You're an alien?"
"Yup."
"Then why do you look human?"
"I don't look human. You look Time Lord."

So why is this not a problem for the other aliens? 'Cause other than a bit of processing, they all sound pretty damn human too.
Because the voice is obnoxious; I would have the same dislike for it if it was a thick Russian accent, I don't find it appropriate for the race. I guess I'm somehow racist towards Russians as well.

Niddy', I honestly do not know how you hear Jacob when you listen to the voice. Because the two sound nothing, nothing alike?
I would joke around and say its because he's racist, but I guess everyone just hears things differently, like the people who keep telling me MaleShep sounds like a good actor. They swear it is true, but I have personally never heard anything that would lead me to believe it.

remember that Shepard get the cypher from Shiala... Maybe in the connection something went wrong and now all protheans sound like a nigerian or whatever.
Also it's a little bit weird to see a 50,000+ years old samurai-type guy with an african accent, why not an oriental accent? I can live with this, but since ME1 they present you protheans in some sort of regal profile, and in the end it's an absolutely misfit guy.

See this is racism. Nice association based on race.
You guys are the ones saying this, repeating it doesn't make it true. His endings on words sound like Jacob's voice. Sorry if someone having a differing opinion rustles your jimmies.

Too obvious. Besides, this is kinda like asking why Darth Vader doesn't have a combination Japanese/German accent, given that both were influences on his costume design.

But that was actually quite funny. And if I'm not mistaken since it was positive, psychologically speaking, it was a generalization based on race rather than a stereotype. But I'll save that for the classroom.

No, it's still racism.
