Gamespy has an article on the DLC controversy (
http://pc.gamespy.co.../1219344p1.html ) and their view is that the only way the Prothean squadmate in the DLC fits into the broader story would be if the Protheans return in large numbers in ME3. Otherwise it's going to be wierd to be walking around with one squadmate from a long extinct race.

Not sure if I agree with Gamespy's view but I'm curious to hear other's opinions here. If Gamespy is correct and the DLC implies that the Protheans are making a big return in ME3, I'm rather dissappointed in Bioware for having revealed such a major plot point for the sake of DLC marketting.

P.S. - I'm not making any comment on the DLC controversy, just on the Prothean plot point. There're enough other threads going on about the DLC day one controversy.

I really doubt that.

Prothy is like Tigger. The very most wonderful thing about him is he's the only one.

Him not being the only Prothean in ME3 kind of destroys his entire character. That seems unlikely. Gamespot is dumb.

There's a lot about Prothy that bothers me, but I'm not about to rant on it until I actually play the game.

We'll just see what Bioware has up its sleeve first.

i doubt it really, you can walk around with Leigon in the citadel and no one bats an eyelid and you know they kind of invaded the place in ME1 so it's not like they are utterly unknown

they could play the last survior card or something and it will still work

I think it will be fine. I imagine he will have been in a stasis chamber, kind of like the ones that all failed on Ilos in ME1, well except for the few who survived and went through to the citadel to alter the keepers to stop them from activating the relay there. Luck was on his side, I imagine, and his didn't failt. This is, at least, how I would have him introduced. As opposed to having been alive/been the last of a group that was alive all this time.

Omg this is great! People on this forum are great!

Seriously though, I do see it happening like a stasis chamber or something. Having one hiding out on mars this whole time would be silly. Bioware may have done some questionable things with dlc and whatnot but one thing they stay consistent with is having a really good, really addicting plot. I'm not worried at all about how the prothy will be introduced.

The story behind why Prothy there is pretty interesting...and sane - and never saw the reasoning behind why even suggested by fans after the early marketing leak about Prothy.

But yeah - they're not making a big return, but they weren't far off the mark.

Agreed on these points.

I'm hoping for a very good explanation as to why he's even alive and around. My money is on cyro statis.

I wonder if Protheans are bouncy too?

*Spoilers*

They handle him pretty much the same way they handled Legion, comment here or there, more comments and wonderment on the Citadel, but in general, no one gives a crap.<_<

Well that kinda make sense, why use only 1 prothean as team squad (that was extinct) ?

In my point of view, if was the only prothean alive, I would not risk him into midle of the mission's to die! I would put him in safety!! So probably there's more protheans in the story alive and this one in the DLC I bet is some kind of soldier prothean or so!!!

Regard all the speculations, we will need to wait and see what the story will tell us !

I doubt there are other Protheans in the game, although I don't know where the confirmed one comes from or how he survived stasis that long. Could Prothy team up with some abandoned Collectors if they weren't all in that station (and lets face it, the actual number of Collectors in ME2 was tiny...must be more somewhere out there?)?

If it's anything else than cryo stasis he'd have to be either immortal (which would make me facepalm hard) or part of a group that has survived all along and were overlooked by the reapers (for the first time in at least 40 million years - which would make me facepalm equally hard)

I'm not at all fond of the idea of a live prothean, never mind a squadmember. But I thought the same thing when they planned to add a geth squadmember for ME2 and he turned out alright. So I'll reserve judgment until I play the game myself.

Also this gamespy article is ridiculous. How exactly should all those protheans have survived? Ilos didn't have enough power to keep a few 100 protheans alive in stasis for more than 150 years, now there's supposed to be a facility that could keep several 1000 of them alive for 50.000 years? And on top of that the facility couldn't have emitted too much energy or the Reapers would have found them. Yeah, nice try but no thanks.<_<

I just had a terrible thought that the suspected deus ex machina people are concerned about may well be a Prothean fleet appearing from no where to save the day *shudders*

I know it won't happen but it's still a horrible image.

There is no prothean fleet in ME3. They caught a bad whiff of the ailment known as the Reapers and couldn't make it.
