Vanguards + Pause Menu = ...

The only challenge in MP is to quickly acquire new targets to charge when needed...
With that necessity negated by the ability to turn on a dime using pause(not to mention being able to direct your squadmates' power use) , do you think that even Insanity on a first playthrough will become trivial?
Will a no-pause house rule be needed?

You'll learn to use it.

I loved to play the vanguard in ME1, but cant stand the charge ability in later versions (feels overpowered and just silly, but that's just my opinion)
Is it possible to play a vanguard in ME2 and ME3, making a decent build but without Charge?
Or will you gimp yourself to much?

If you don't like the charge ability, then don't use it.
You don't have to upgrade it, since you can't upgrade everything to max lvl.

I'm not sure it's a wise idea to go charging a brute, for example.

Well if you don't like it, don't use it. No one is forcing you to do it. Personally I think just like Dragon Age, all the classes are OP if you do it right and if it's not feeling OP, that's user error.... OR, you just don't like the class that you are trying to play, which is perfectly fine, so just go play another one instead.
I didn't like the Vangaurd Charge in ME2 either to be honest though. I think it had to do with opening the radial dial to assign my powers and my squadmates powers - as I turned off their ability to use their own abilities themselves cuz they seemed to suck at firing them off correctly. The cooldowns really turned me off on it too but with new system, oh boy, it's fun, me likie! I's a one women wrecking machine in MP and can't wait to really play the game in SP with my squadmates when we aren't gimped down to such shyt cooldowns with all them damn heavy weapons.

Not really, squadmates tossing stuff like overload to rip down sheilds and stasis or singularity to hold them still would be very useful to a crackhead Vangaurd.

Yeah this. Just play a cqc adept at the vanguard if you like, with a shotgun and either barrier or stasis. Plays more like an ME1 vanguard.miltos33 wrote...

In ME1 I played a Vanguard like a soldier with biotics and pistol, A bit of "Jedi" touch You know ;-) . Throw them with your left hand and then pop them off while on the floor with a pistol in your right and. (well, maybe more sith, not nice..
The demo left a strange taste, I tried it with most classes but when running the demo with Vanguard I felt like "Megadeath is coming!, run you poor bastards!"
Sorry for Hijacking the thread

a Paragon Vanguard FIRST. I've NEVER been a " spam the charge button "
kind of player. That's just lame to me. I always used the charge as the
tee off for finishing an encounter or for some strategic purpose.
CHARGE > BLAST > CHARGE > MELEE > BLAST > CHARGE > ZZZZZ
Believe it or not. I went through Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2
as a vanguard - and I almost never even TOUCHED the SHOTGUN.
I chose the assault Rifle in the Collector Base. I have a thing about PISTOLS.
The Pistol was my default weapon in ME1 and ME2 - til the collector base.
