BioWare will most likely not make another isometric game, mainly because of their buyout with EA, and also because the current market is aimed at casual gaming now, such as shooters, and less about strategy. A shame really. I still respect BioWare as a developer and I recognize them for their tremendous feat at storytelling, but EA's influence is making me sad... sad panda...

Couldn't they combine the two (sort of what they did with DA:O)? Allow an isometric camera view mode for those that want to concentrate on combat strategy. Which could be pretty much mandatory on the hard difficulty setting. And have the option to leave the setting on casual for those those that want to play the game mostly in third person and only controlling one party member at a time.

Or would most companies not even do a compromise system like that in the future?

I think that was the problem with Dragon Age. Trying to be both, but neither of both sides were that good. The console players complained, because it was hard to control, but PC players weren´t satisfied with controls either, mostly becasue that "isomteric view" was just advertisement for PC players and actualy was just large zoom and with all the obstacles, it was 75% of the game unusable. It is sad, that nowadays, companies have the options to make the game for several consoles, for wider market and they are unwilling to adapt controls and user interface for each.

This will never work, because games like Baldur´s Gate are designed to use mouse, you could never play such game on console. Unless the developers heavily change controls and UI. And as you can see, they would rather spend the rest of the development time to create DLCs :D.

That's a shame. I never played on a console until very recently. DA:O is the first game I played through on one (my computer couldn't handle the requirements) and the controls seemed fine to me. Probably because I did come from a PC game background and had no other console game to compare it to. I heard one of the console complaints was it was 'slow' but I was pausing constantly anyway so I didn't notice that.

I just finished BG1 and am now on to BG2 (first time playing them) and I love it! This game is beyond addictive. I'm playing it more hours in a row than I played any other game. Once you start it's impossible to stop playing. There may be more new people out there than the developers realize who would go for an isometric game, if it was made and advertised well.

I thought Origins on the PC had a similar camera to NWN? People complain about everything nowadays. They removed the tactical camera for DA2 and everyone complained and wanted it back. I play Origins on the console and I find the controls easy to use but then again, I did master the controls of Warhammer: Battle March on the 360 as well which most reviewers complained about saying they were too complicated and complex.

I think it was all the moaning that led Bioware to dumb everything down for DA2.

"Me no know how to choose dialogue."

"Me no know how to change tactics."

"Me no know how to use abilities."

"Me NO KNOW HOW TO DO ANYTHING!" - Imagine an angry child screaming for this last quote.

Dragon Age 2 was dumbed down for these people and people still complained.

"Me no know romance dialogue."

"Me no know choice dialogue."

"Me no want romance."

"Me no know what dialogue does what."

The result? ME3 has two dialogue options and lots of auto-dialogue but people are now complaining over that:

"Me no know what dialogue move conversation forward."

"Me no understand dialogue."

"Me no understand words."

"Me no able to read."

The result? Dragon Age 3 will have auto-dialogue.

But seriously if Bioware continue this way they'll probably end up scrapping the dialogue system and of course it's their choice when they keep dumbing down the dialogue system. I only hope that Dragon Age 3 doesn't get this treatment. It needs a dialogue system similar to the one in Deus Ex: HR.

You must have been asleep then when NWN was released. The Aurora engine has one of the clunkiest camera views in my and others gaming experience.

You must have forgotten that it was patched. I brought the game with all expansions along with many others. Not everyone brought the game day one back in 2002.

From what I remember in NWN the camera was locked to your character, but you can´t move camera much more in DA. I think this was the problem. True tactic/isometric view must be switched, no just zoom. They need to use Fog Of War and let you move your camera freely instead of locking camera near your characters.

Yeah that's true. It was locked to the character. I played NWN before Baldur's Gate though so maybe I'm bias. I'm personally fine with the cameras in both games.

There will probably be quite a lot of classic RPGs soon thanks to crowdfunding/kickstarter. Have a look at wasteland 2 for example.
