The game itself works fine and at first the toolset seems to, too. But whenever I click on a toolbar button (File, Edit, View, etc) the dropdown menu appears and everything freezes. If I try to mess with it it crashes, if I leave it alone eventually I can go back to the toolset and continue (still can't navigate the toolbar, though).

I'm running this on 64bit Win7.

Help would be appreciated.

you patched your game/toolset and installed directx 9c? are you using a disc or digital release?

This happened to me but it all works fine now hunt for a thread about installing the toolset on windows 7 ( also 64bit ), it definitely includes putting in directx 9c as Semper said and a couple of other tweaks. But mine actually seems to run smoother on Win7 than Vista or xp so all is not lost.

i simply had to install directx to get the toolset to work. afterwards it runs without issues on win7 x64.

I remember having a dodgy texture box at one point too. But all in all I'm happy with Win 7 and ( fingers crossed )  it hasn't crashed yet but gives me an out of memory warning instead.

I installed DirectX from the disc: The first few times it gave me an error and failed to install before finally (apparently) installing successfully. But the issue persists. I'll try looking for the thread Iveforgotmypassword mentioned.

Some posts are suggesting .net 2.0. Guess I'll try that. Not too confident.

Edit: Or not. The installer told me it's not supported on a 64-bit system.

Sorry but I don't know how to put in links, if you go to the search area up above this and type in toolset then scroll to the NWN2 technical support section it comes up with a few posts similar to this. There used to be loads of this stuff on the old forums I should know one of the posts was mine about vista doing the same thing and I'm pretty sure I just did the same vista fixes for windows 7.

Thanks for this. I feel like an idiot: I hadn't fully patched the game.

But in any case, after finally resolving all the issues the toolset crashes whenever I try to use the appearance wizard. Looking it up it turns out that the NWN2 toolset is just a POS in general.

Sigh. I miss NWN1.

just avoid the appearance wizard. this thing is totally borked and never worked for me. the good thing is, you don't need it at all :D imo there's also an appearance wizard plugin at the vault which should do the trick fine.

You have to use plugins, even the devs used them. Grinning fool who did the last fixes to the official toolset ( he added the ability search for resources for example ) also did plugins, since he replaced the need via plugins he just didn't redo those features officially.

The NWN2 toolset is not a POS. It is a Windows program written for Windows XP. You are running it on something else. I have no significant issues running it on Windows XP. Occasional crashes, and I expect that with any Windows based program. And I do use the Appearance Wizard and I have no significant problems with it either.

This isn't NWN1. Get over it.

I too have never experienced the mysteries of the Appearance Wizard (it has always caused the toolset to hang on every machine I've had). I've never had any need to use it though, as I prefer getting my hands dirty in the Armor Appearance and Properties creature tabs.

Unfortunately the Appearance Wizard option is right next to another function I use quite a bit in the pop-up menu when you right-click on an object in the area window, so I occasionally select it by accident.

If you NEED to use the App. Wiz., there is a solution (kinda).

Step 1 - Determine that you need the App. Wiz.
Step 2 - Save everything and close the toolset.
Step 3 - Reopen the toolset. Open the mod in which the creature you want to edit is stored. Do not open any areas or even look at any models whatsoever.
Step 4 - Open App. Wiz. With no other graphical anything up, it should work okay, just try not to go back and forth between the screens too much.
Step 5 - When done with the creature, SAVE
Step 6 - Either try another creature or return to step 1; sometimes it works again, sometimes not.

It's a weird memory/graphics issue. The toolset seems to be written with only the sort of machines games designers at Atari/Obsid. would have, not actual PCs. I'm willing to bet they have XP pro and have no junk running in the background either. It can be a pain on 7, but when it works, it is a better toolset.
