Does anyone like myself not only play the game, but live it?

What I mean is like in Oblivion, I would decorate my house, take vacations ie. swiming in a lake, dating npc's. Just playing the game and interacting with the world how the developers didn't intend. I'm pretty sure I'll be taking my wardog out for walks and things like that.

Not really seeing as how I can decorate my house, take a vacation, go out on a date, or walk my dog(all of which I do anyway, besides redecorating) IRL. The only game I did that kind of thing with was Fable1/2, but interaction is pretty limited.

When the plotline has the world on a precipice hanging over disaster, with only your hardest efforst staving off the seemingly inevitable

is it really living it to take a vacation? Does your character spend all these wasted moments regretting the people that die while it wastes time taking a wardog for walksies?

Can't say I do that however what if your character is a bastard who doesn't care how many people die while he's on vacation. I'm talking strictly Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood kind of guy with high Infamy? You're telling me he's going to care if another useless innocent person dies? Kinda doubt that...

Personally, I hope the story immerses me enough that I don't care about those things. I found myself doing these things in Fable, but only because the main story kinda bored me.

I don't even want to talk about Oblivion.

Mr. Sprinkles is only happy when he is BATHING IN THE BLOOD OF YOUR ENEMIES.

I know what you mean in Oblivion, but when it's open ended and you've saved the world there IS time for doing whatever you want in the game world. in Dragon Age I'd feel too into the story to role play to the extent your'e suggesting and I'd want to follow the story line closely, and then it ends... And then you make another character and start over. It's just a different experience :)

That doesn't mean Mr Sprinkles can't HAVE A SOFT SPOT FOR WALKS EITHER.

Well, I'm not sure I'd be role-playing my character to that extent, but it does sound interesting.

What if Mr Sprinkles is taking a walk while being bathed in the blood of his enemies? Like if the main character is continously pouring enemy blood over him while walking? Not to mention you might meet some Darkspawn! Surely a compromise can be reached??!?

I do this kinda. In Oblivion I just "lived". I would make sure I ate a few things per day, and I would go out hunting or dungeon delving  or questingduring the day, and make sure I slept at night, preferably at home. And I would "bathe" in the lake from time to time.

Just make sure to clean up after him.

The world has to wait anyway, until I am leveled up. :kissing:

That's what RPGs are partially about. It shouldn't contain some linear plot where you are taken by the hand as to what to do next. The player should be free to roam wherever he or she wants. Of course it would be nice if there was some urgency, but if that dictates the game then you would have an action game. For RPGs it would be a bad thing, because leveling up and aquiring skills depend on doing side quests, exploration, fighting encounters, etc.

In Fallout 3 I had fun setting up my house, I found an abandonded apartment in the suburbs of D.C. and it had a bed, and lots of storage space. I put a lot of my items there and did some decorating, but that was about it.

I doubt DAO will give you the ability to do any of that stuff. I know you will have some type of home camp where your other companions will hang out (I think).

Oh oh!! There's a bath mod in PC Oblivion that is just brilliant!! You can buy different tubs for your house(s), and soap for nature bathing in rivers and creeks, and when you do you get a stat boost or you can choose to have your personality stat decrease over time until you bathe and it gets restored. It adds quite a bit of immersion, the thirst and hunger mods are fun for this reason too. XD

No. I'm not a child/retard so I don't strip off my armor for fun. If you can date an NPC it's built into the game and I'll do that for fun. But following an NPC around and talking to yourself doesn't make a date or immersion. All it makes is a pitiful display of lonliness.

What you are describing is not immersion. Doesn't anyone know what immersion means? You're talking about goofing off and not playing the game. Which is fine in most games, but I think you'll be bummed about this one. No house to decorate. No leash for your hounds. NPCs will think you are a smelly loser who needs friends/a life.

Oh snap! Does the way He/she play the game bother you that much?

For sandbox games, I'll sometimes do this. Not swim in lakes and vacations... but I do decorate houses.

In Fallout 3, I even went so far as to reverse pickpocket everyone in Arefu and BigTown so they are heavily armed. That way when I quick travel and the odd raider / bear / robot / mutant attack raids the town, the townies can defend themselves properly.

I also escorted the water caravan in F3 throughout its entire wasteland route just for fun... of course I also reverse pickpocketed the caravan too because those guards fall over in a strong gust of wind.

In DA:O, I doubt I'll be doing this. The game isn't a sandbox game, so I'm doubtful we'll have the freedom to explore and do what we want when we want. If it's anything like ME or Kotor, then there won't be any vacation spots in zones like Korriban :P
