Sten you can build however you want since you get him early...but he lacks a spec point.
Oghren can get another spec, but if you don't rush Orzammar you'll find him built horribly with points spent all over the place.
As for style points, please, please don't make me pick.

Sten, but only because I have a soft spot for honor driven religious warrior types.

I don't know, the Leliana/Sten banter is pretty hilarious.
L: Sten, I saw that...
S: Saw what?
L: Playing with that kitten.
S: I was not playing with the kitten. I was... training it. For war.
L: Oh, Sten...
L: Tee hee hee...
S: What?
L: Softy!
S: Stop saying that!

Oghren, a belching crass drunken runt for the win... the type of person I like on my side in a bar fight.

I kept Sten because he was hitting harder and does pretty decent dialogue with people. Running with a group that mostly had him, Morrigan, and Alistair had its entertaining moments, though Morrigan plus anybody might be just as good.
Oghren wins personality, but personality doesn't kill darkspawn!

Sten totally...sorta had a crush on him...had the highest level possible with him. He was my best friend, and I think my character was a bit jealous of Sten and Morrigans weird convo about Qunari sex or whatever lol

Sten. He's a tank that is better than Oghren plus his dry humor is funny.

I can't choose!
Sten is a serious and dedicated warrior of strength while Oghren is a mess up funny drunkard dwarf.
Now the way I put it... I guess I have a winner.
But I really like Oghren, I love the line my PC get to say "I love you, too. Oghren."

Sten!
(At least this way I have some beer left for my dwarf)

Oghren.
Sten is the worst party member in the game. He's entirely generic and one note with a 'hilarious' 'quirk' added to mask it.

Consider the similarities in their character arcs:
Oghren: Gets angry, does something stupid, loses weapon (or, at least, right to bear weapons in the city)
Sten: Loses weapon, gets angry, does something stupid
Both have a humiliating defeat in their past. (Sten and his unit to some darkspawn, Oghren to a roast nug.)
And both come from rigid caste societies. (Though the dwarfs seem much more progressive on gender matters.) For all I know in the eventual Qunari DLC I'll have to find Sten's wife to resolve a major plot dilemma.

With both in the party you get perhaps the best banter conversation I've heard so far.
"I hope you've thought of a name."
