It's not about helping the environment, it's about saving money. There's this little thing called recycling which is the answer to all of humanities problems with regards to resource waste. It costs too much for the corporate scum at EA to consider though.

Hey guys think how many trees this saves!

For what, for porn journals?

As HighFlyingDwarf said there is recycling and it is possible to get decent quality paper with it for decent price.
Still zero difference in price between digital and physical seems questionable to me.

All the hate on the BSN, although if you read it all you might never leave the house.

EA don't do printed monauals anymore to save the environment  money. I don't really mind that.

No holstering to explore HUD free and with the camera free in combat areas.... that's a real problem!!

^thats my next main gripe: the damn no holstering thing. Shepard literally looks stupid as hell wandering around constantly pointing his gun, not to mention it makes walking around feel ackward at the same time. and it pisses me off that much more knowing Bioware originally had holstering in the  game and took it out to add stupid heavy melee attacks and the ability to flip around and do backflips and stupid crap like that. i never wanted my shepard to be a freakin acrobat! and thats exactly what they said- bioware said that they couldn't fit in holstering AND all the new animations they made for all the flipping around crap! its dispicable!

EA mentioned a while ago it would be phasing out proper manuals in order to "save costs". If only those savings would trickle down to us...

Honestly, I think this is a legit complaint, I like User Manuals.

The old Bioware games had big manuals because they were pretty much abbreviated 2nd or 3rd D&D rules with all the spell descriptions, etc.

And I think tutorials are much more evocative of how games today should teach players, as defined in this excellent Extra Credits video.

Paper has become obsolete. In 20-30 years, it's going to be a collector item.

A good manual is a selling point, imo.

Pikmin 2 had one of, if not the best manual.

I dislike this trend of putting them into the game.

Considering the vast codex archives of ME1/2 I hate to imagine the size of the manuals if they were all on paper

why else would there be a freakin' Manual tab in the game? God bioware, what the hell happened to you?this is just trash. I happen to love manuals, especially in my RPG's.

Oh, by the heavens! What on earth will we do? it is not like we have any large collections of information on the internet. That is obviously just an urban legend.

Why all? Few. Those few, capable to hook you up, draw in game and not letting you go until you finish it.
Why not start manual as report-alike, transfer order for commander Shepard, telling you that you, Shepard, being requested by Cpt. Anderson to be his XO on new ship? Make it feel like it's part of the game, what, in whole Canada there is not a one military guy who can help to create military-alike, yet interesting and immersive messages, turning "boring" manual into thrilling piece of info. Usual gameplay advice intertwined with pseudo-realistic documents, telling you about your new ship.
Just as example.
For ME3 it could be summary of reports on your past adventures - reminding you of what you've done and explaining you what they **** is going on after you seen your Shepard last time. Make it personal, make it diary. Tell about that kid with model plane, whatever.

Existing approach remind me old joke - instead of sandbox you've been given shovel and pointed to nearby quarry.

As I said in my post earlier, it's all about money. It's not about saving paper and ink. Strategy guides evolved so game developers could make more money. Also, no manuals in games means they make more money on the game itself. They make more money on both ends.

The only issue would be if game developers pocket all that extra money, instead of investing back into the games they are making. As I stated earlier, most game developers have eliminated manuals and use strategy guides, so you can't pick on EA/BioWare for that.

However, it is great to see the value that The Witcher 2 provides for $60. I can't think of many other modern day games that give you all that.

The manual is included in game for all players for ease of use. This allows players to find the manual if they wish at any point that they need this.

I fail to see how this is a bad thing?

People like to collect games and their manuals, which is why people get physical copies a lot of the time. Just because you or I have no interest in it doesn't mean others don't.

Yes, you said this before, and it was nonsense before. Before strategy guides we didn't have strategy tips in the manuals, beyond a page or two.

Yes, I miss the old style manuals.

But I'll bet that the EULA will still be longer than the manual. If as much effort goes into the manual as the EULA and TOS, I'd be surprised.
