Hate to break it to you but Liara has always worn armor.

Didn't seem much of an armor what she wore in the ME2. So nope.

If you bother to look, her LOTSB armor actually have that same black "chainmail" fabric that most armor in the ME universe have. The only difference is that instead of having ceramic plating over this fabric like Shepard's N7 armor, it instead have some sort padded cloth like fabric instead.

So it is armor, just a very light armor.

They already stated you get alternative outfits with the DLC, the outfits in the images are probably the alternative ones. Which kind of annoys me since James and Kaidans are the exact same? Though more choice is always nice

Hopefully they continue this tradition of putting extra costumes in DLC for every one they release. The art book makes it look like every character gets three alternate outfits, plus an extra one for the CE and From Ashes (FA). Thats five total (and pretty damn good too). Assuming that we get at least two more major DLCs this year, we might be seeing as many as seven outfits for any given character. I hope my math (and guestimations) aren't off.

The Alliance probably provided the armour.

That, and she is working on an Alliance vessel, serving under an Alliance commander and acting as part of an Alliance crew.

Just to clear up a few things about the armors...

-the standard game has multiple armors/outfits for the squad members (not gonna say how many!)
- the CE comes with 4 extra ones (ashley, kaiden, james, liara)
- from ashes comes with an extra additional set for every squad member (yes, over and above A/K, J, L)

Excellent! In fact, this makes me think that the standard game has more than 3 outfits for every character. Possibly four? 

Can you tell us how many armor sets Prothean gets?
