Yeah well how will they false the release check? think on that.

They will alter the software to make it not check.

People are missing the point on how this works.
There are protetcions that can be bypassed.
But in the end in pre loads, the game is not complete. Even if you bypass the protections, you still can't install, and even if you manage to install there will be data missing.

It can be a little bit of every single files. It can be the whole first level, it can be the menus, it can be anything, and you will have to  download the missing data from the origin servers on day 1.
Meaning even if hackers manage to bypass protections in time. They will not be able to play the game unless they manage to get their hands on the missing part of the game.

For that they either have to hack the origin servers and hope the data is already stored there. Which won't happen.
Or they can hope that they find a reviewer code or account somewhere.
This is what happened in the past for some of those games in preload. Some hackers managed to get a reviewer code, downloaded the remaining of the data (because the game is already unlocked for them so they can prepare a review), and then the hacker had a complete game, allowing him to build a crack for the game.

But unless the whole game is in the pre-load (very stupid), or they get lucky by finding the remaining data, hackers can't hack it before launch day. They might very well succeed on day 1. But not before.

Oh and PS: just buy the game. I've got my CE pre order with 1 day shipping, and the box is going to sit in my living room for weeks. Just to boast :).

There's a hole in your statement, though.  The game is being sent to retailers.  It's leaving warehouses.  It's in the hands of truck drivers.

Somewhere, between the warehouse and the release, the extra data, if the game isn't entirely loaded via the pre-load, will become available and thousands upon thousands of people-legit buyers with pre-loads--will have access to the game.

I am not familiar how it is with Origin retail copies yet.

But assuming it is anything like steamwork games which it most likely is because it works very well (steamworks games are games that absolutly require steam to run, just like ME3 is with origin).  The statement stands true. You still have to download the remaining data on day 1 with dvd copies.

Pre-load means able to play, I assume? Not too familiar with terminology here.

No, it means you will be able to download the game, so you can launch the game the SECOND it is released, without having to leave the house, wait on a delivery, or waiting to install the game.

No it means you will be able to download the game before the release of the game, so that you can start to play right when it is released, and not have to wait hours for a big download to finish.

Basically if you wish you'll have the game on your pc 4 or 5 days before release, but you won't be able to play it... yet.

It means you can pre-download most of the game files before it's released so that when the game unlocks,  you can play right away, after it decrypts the game files.

Pre-load (at least with steam) means you will download the game and install it, but not being able to play it untill certain conditions are met (i.e. the launch date reached)

Edit: I'm so slooooooooowwww (must be the age) <_<

Do you by any chance know when the game is scheduled to unlock? Any chance of a midnight unlock? I'll even settle for a midnight PST unlock :)

It depends when the game is planned to release. I've never used Origin before so I have no clue how they handle releases.

If it unlocks at midnight then, yes, you can play right away. Although, usually the game files need to be decrypted etc. which can take up to 30 minutes or so, depending on the size of the game.

Great, I'm moving on the 2nd and won't have internet again until the 5th. Anyone have any idea how many gigs ME3 is going to be?

Probably somewhere around 10GB. I doubt it will be over 13GB.

Pretty much, amazon says size (atleast for SE) is 9.8GB

DDE size is unknown though.

So why does Europe have to wait 3 days longer, even if you want to get it through online means. Digital distribution you know.

If the whole "got to please the physical retailers" thing is true, then that's why. Many many people would buy the digital version if it was released 3 days earlier.

so preload of the game early b4 March 6th mean I can have it completely installed but I won't have access to actual play it until the 6th? What all this means is just to save us a day of time downloading on the official release date?

And the difference would be what exactly? It's the same price.
