*****CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS*****

Just finished game with three possible endings.....I am playing a Danish Female Elf Warrior

My most favorite ending....Alistair made me chancellor (support the King) where he seeks my advice on everything and I rule when he's not there....but I also chose to go be with the Grey Wardens as well which meant that Alistair left court to go rebuild the grey wardens....he left with his love never to leave her side again...well...except to make a shrine for Duncan.

Very hard to get to this point though as I replayed and restarted many times.....Save as often as you can....because there will be times when you can't....

1.  Had to harden him....happens when talk to Goldanna (his sister)...I did this before Landsmeet quest. Landsmeet was my last quest before battle.  I picked to things.....Something about is this who you thought your sister was...and people are selfish....(I felt bad for doing this at first). However, hardened Alistair will fight for the relationship..not weak gullable Alistair.

You need 100 points love and maxed persuation for Landsmeet.

2. Finally do Landsmeet.....I did this my first round by mistake....(I have the Strategy Guide for tips and suggestions)....I was trying to make anora queen without me suggesting it...however....Alistair won all but one vote when I made the arguments and he became king.....I was so not looking forward to the dumping scene.

Positive Influence...talk to anora and tell you support her even if you don't ...bonus for rescuing Oswyne from Howes Torturers during "Rescue Queen"......also rescue Irminric in Howe's dungeon and give the ring to Alstanna  in  the tavern in Denarim...and before you release Vaughn (the jerk from CIty Elf) make him vote for you before you say you will release him.

Confronting Loghain.....Talk about Blight...or who betrayed Ferelden....after this I focused on what not to do during debate......Never bring up Cailan to die....don't talk about about making Alistair king....which I didn't even want to suggest....when you talk to anora before landsmeet don't tell her you think Loghain should die.

If all goes well Alistair will be king....then it will instantly go into the I love you but I'm king dumping scene.  I picked....We don't have to grow old together....Nobody can force the king..and Perhaps you should do what pleases you for once dialogue options...Alistair will reply with Dam them all and I feel like such an idiot for even bringing it up, please forgive me...I replied with You'll have to earn it.

Oh yeah.....Loghain will not just give up you will have to fight him to the death...I sent in Alistair so there would be no way for Alistair to wed Anora....Anora won't marry her father's murderer.

Bingo...you are now his mistress. Alistair Completely and unconditionally loves you and will do anything to keep you.   If you want him or you to live....he'll have to bed Morrigan.

If you don't it makes for a great tragedy.....Tragedy #1....I leave Alistair behind in final battle...and you get some lame Eulogy, a Statue and so on....I did it just to see how distraut Alistair would be without me. Sad, but not sad enough for me.

Tragedy #2 and the most tragic.....If you take him with you he will sacrifice himself to save you....I tried every dialogue option to get my pc to take the fall with Alistair present....He gives his life not matter what....but if you pick....But this is insane.....you will at least begiven a final romantic kiss and his undying love before he dies.

This is probably too much information....but it takes a lot of work to get to this point...major backtracking.

Interesting information. My experience wasn't too different though my elf was only friends with Al. I had him marry Anora so I did the deed to Loghain. Felt bad though; next time I'll make Loghain a warden, Al be damned, and let him sacrifice himself at the end. That way Al doesn't have to obsess over what Morrigan did, nor does he have to make up a story for the wardens coming from Orlais (who wondered how I survived despite giving the killing blow hehehehe).

From now on I'm always going to harden Al; provides more options at the end.

I know what you mean...In a way I feel kinda of sad that my first origin story is done....I probably had the most emotional investment in these characters then I will have in future games...I love this game...it's like reading a great book but you get to choose the ending. The problem is now I know about Alistair...My next play I'm going completely for Zevran...he was sweet and funny in his own way....he made for light banter and a good friendship. It's going to be hard not to to react to Alistair's flirting at the beginning of the game until I meet Zevran though.

Thankyou for some very useful ideas ! I found that backtracking and redoing any ending with the "hardened" Al made him sound much more decisive and kingly too.

Alistair becomes much more impassioned about everything when you harden him...The boy becomes a man.

I'm curious why making him the king is the happy ending. I thought I got a great ending for my mage by leaving that governing headache to Anora, leaving Alistair and my PC to run about and rebuild the Wardens in Ferelden.

I'll have to try hardening him sometime, I haven't yet because it feels like kicking him when he's down.

I tried three play-thru of Landsmeet to get Anora to become queen. In fact, that was my original plan.  First round I won all the votes. The second two times Loghain wins votes so they have to  battle and Alstair becomes King thru default.

I think it might have to do with hardening him.

My first walk thru I didn't harden him....and he dropped me to friend status after landsmeet....no chance during the dumping scene...Al was bound and determined to do what was right....which meant dumping me...it was so very painful.

Anyway...I haven't played out any more scenarious with Al unhardened....As interest as I am to find out possible endings for that....I am unsure I want to go thru all the final battles again...lot's of work (sigh).

How did you get passed it with unhardened Al?

I didn't have any trouble making Anora queen, with Alistair unhardened. She was happy, Alistair was relieved, I said the right things at the Landsmeet and it all worked out. Well, until Alistair threw himself under the bus at the ending. That was kind of unexpected.

I wonder if this works with Dwarves? I really hope so =) I had to make Anora queen last time so I could stay with Alistair and I didn't really like it. Thanks for the info!

My first play through I played as a human noble and hardened Alistair, my PC lives happily ever after. This second I played a human mage and did not harden Alistair. I had him at 100% and did something crazy at the landsmeet, I had him marry Anora. The break up after that was weird. We were like only half-broken up. I chose the option to the effect of "Anora will have your heir" and he seemed cool with that. My mage is Ms. Duty however and was not going to take Morrigan's deal no matter what. At her funeral he was talking about how he thought we'd be together forever and Anora is standing right there lol.

My first playthrough I was a Human Noble with no idea what different endings there were (I avoid all spoilers til it's over): I never hardened Alistair (didn't know about it), I picked Anora for Queen (because Alistair obviously did NOT want to be King), let Alistair finish off Loghain, convinced Anora not to execute Alistair, and convinced Alistair to do the dirty deed with Morrigan. This got us running off happily ever after to rebuild the Grey Wardens, and I was quite pleased. Then I relaxed on my spoiler aversion & found out as a Human I could've been Queen, so I played through the last half of the game to get Alistair hardened and put my bid in for Queendom (and was successful).

I'm working on a City Elf playthrough now; will have to see how it goes in the end this time.

You had more options as a Human Noble Female....You could of even become queen and ruled side-by-side if you chose the right dialogue and took the right steps.  None Human pcs (elves and dwarves) can't become royalty...but we at least get the mistress option. Maybe that is better than Alistair being honor bound.  At least we know that he wants to be with pc because he loves pc!?!

That must be the difference, I didn't harden him so he was quite vocal about wanting nothing to do with the throne. I hear that if you harden him he is much more okay with being king, to the point that he may even advocate for himself before the Landsmeet.

Here's exactly what I did:

I rescued Anora. When stopped by Ser Cauthrien, I surrendered (you can fight, but DO NOT expose Anora or she will throw you under the bus). Later at Eamon's place, I spoke to Anora and promised to support her bid for the crown. Alistair was okay with this, he wants to be a Warden, not king.

I did all the side quests I found in Denerim to gain support, there are a few people to clear out of Arl Howe's estate. One is an Arl's son being tortured, one is the jerk from the City elf origin who you can release in exchange for his vote, one is a templar who is the brother of a bann and has evidence that Loghain's men killed templars and sent Jowan to kill Eamon. You should also have evidence from the Alienage that Loghain is selling people to Tevinter. There may be more that I'm forgetting, but that's what walkthroughs are for ;)

When I got to the Landsmeet, my line of attack was to give evidence of what he's done (he won't deny it) and say he wasn't taking the Blight seriously. DO NOT accuse him of wanting Cailan dead or of trying to make a power grab because the Landsmeet will go against you (I don't know what effect that has on your happy ending chances). He tried to accuse me of kidnapping Anora but she came in on my side. I got all votes but one lickspittle who said peasants shouldn't comment on strategy re: Ostagar but it was enough to win. When you beat Loghain (I let Alistair kick his face in <3 it was a little hard because my mage is usually right behind buffing and healing him but he did fine on his own) Anora makes a grab for the crown, and Eamon will tell her to shut up, Alistair is rightful king, etc. The Landsmeet asks me to mediate, this presents four(?) choices: Alistair, Alistair + PC (ONLY WORKS for human noble femPCs - anyone else will get dumped), Anora, Anora + Alistair (this takes prep work at Eamon's and who wants this anyway?!). Choose Anora, Eamon will get over himself.

I told myself that since Anora pledges her support to defeat the Blight, the Wardens have no place playing kingmakers. It doesn't hurt that Anora as queen frees up Alistair to be my mage's boy toy .

Of course it goes without saying that you will have to take Morrigan's deal but you'll just have to cowboy up if you want to keep him.

This should work for anyone who doesn't want to crown Alistair. Your guide is good for those who who do, however :)

That's not all the possible happy endings with Alistair. I didn't harden him, made Anora queen, took the deal with Morrigan, and got the "He never left his love's side again except to make a memorial to Duncan." Making Alistair king and myself the power behind the throne wasn't something my elf was interested in.

Also, the Landsmeet went against me and I killed Loghain. And told Anora she was kind of a ruthless **** -- "I just felt like telling you that." -- before making her queen. :P

Way cool!!! Couldn't have written it better myself. Except for the  side-quests I wasn't given any of those options. It most definately must have to do with hardening vs non-hardening Alistair.

Am wondering...were you playing human or none-human?

That was my original plan too!  I think I lost that option when I hardened Al.  He automatically excepted being king and I didn't even get the option of nominating Anora. The screen shots jumped so fast from locking up Anora in tower to the King Dumping Scene.  I had to be quick on my feet to save my ass for Al so to speak.Posted Image
