well ive been playing for a while now but now my krogan soldier only has carnage in his hotbar so if i want to throw a grenade or soemthing i have to open the annoying shift menu and select it and this also happened to my human soldier a few moments ago

A known bug in the demo that happens when you change class in a gaming lobby. To fix this,exit the lobby, then change class and then rejoin the lobby (via Join Game or invite (assuming PC)).
