Hey all.

So I've made a basic area and a map pin and the pin itself shows up ingame just fine but it's greyed out and I cannot travel to it.  I suspect it's because I've done my trails wrong.  (followed this tutorial: http://social.biowar...mpaign_Tutorial)

Here's some screenshots of how I've set this up:

Overview:

Pin Object Viewer:

Trail Object Viewer:

Any idea where I went wrong?

Well, I'm not sure what the problem is. Had this problem myself, though I can't recall the exact problems.
Can't really help without seeing the files, as I can't exactly describe how I did it. I'm not sure what I did, really.
Try changing the trail name. Not that that would do anything, I suspect, but do it anyway :P
Have you also done the last step?
I think I missed it the first time, or spelled it wrong.

"The final step in adding a new location to the single player map is
modifying the exported map file. To do this, open the map file in the
toolset: File->Open File. It can be found in:
Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\AddIns\\\\(your module name)\\\\module\\\\override\\\\toolsetexport\\\\

Once this file is opened, its parent map must be set to the World
Map. To do this, change the MAP_MAP_PARENT_RESREF field to
“wide_open_world”.
Once this final modification is made, the location should be
visitable from the single player campaign, just like any official DLC."

If you have, well, I don't know.
If you'd like, I could take a look at it for you. Two heads are better than one.
And also, go back to "spec_area.are", go into properties, and change "No Teleport" to False. It is set to true. That might be it, though I'm not certain.

EDIT: No, it wasn't the "No Teleport". Just tried.
Have you checked and re-checked spellings? That could be it, sometimes you miss those things. I did, several times.

The problem is most likely because the map pin isnt set to 'Active' instead of 'INVALID' in the object properties. The trail is not important from what I can see.

Btw if you get this working and your game actually loads the thing PLEASE let me know, I've tried to do this and gotten all the way to having the area loading but the game always freezes at during the loading.

As far as I can tell from the screenshots, the map pin is set to 'Active'.

I couldn't transfer to my area either, and I had the map pin set to 'Active', but it didn't work. After that I changed it to one of the other choices, didn't help either. Then I switched back, edited something that I can't remember, and then after a few tries, something was fixed and it worked.

Your area freezes the game? Wow, what have you done to the poor area?

Try to create a new area, and see if that works. Could be there's something corrupted with it, if that's possible.

I had no problem with mine, but then I didn't do much to it.

Alright good news, I managed to get the pin to be selectable and I did travel to it but I ran into the same load issue. It just sat there loading with my map open (music still playing in the BG so it wasn't a crash).

Anyway the important stuff:

My issue was that the pin wasn't properly referencing the area. Because my .are file was in a subfolder "spec_items" what I had to do was change the AreaTag on the Pin from spec_area to spec_items/spec_area.

I'm thinking the load issue is due to the lack of area transitions, so I'll see about implementing those.

Well the area loads when I untie it from theSP campaign and run it was it's own Campaign so the issue is likely just a missing variable tag or something.

Great that you got it working.

However, mine is still tied to the SP campaign, the way the tutorial did it, and it didn't "freeze" for me. Strange, indeed.
Maybe I should make another, to see if I can get the same results, then.
But you can still see it on the map then, I take it?
Was it the 'Content Module' field that you had tied to Single Player, or the 'Extended Module' field?

Yeah the map pin shows up and I can click on it. Trails also appear to be working. Extended module.

Alright I think I found the problem as you can see in this screenshot:

http://img682.images...treferenced.jpg

I still can't figure out WHY it isn't being referenced properly though.

How odd... I finally got it to work by removing the spec_items/ from my map's area tag.

So strange, but atleast it's working now.

Strange indeed.

It's not because they aren't in the same folder, because my map is not in the same folder as my area that I've linked to. And I didn't need to write in the name of that folder to make it work.

So I wonder why it is like that.

Oh, well, you've got it to work, that's the important thing for now, right?

The odd part is I couldn't even click on it on the main map (greyed out) until I added the folder directory... then when I removed it it worked perfectly.

I must have changed something in between that fixed it xD

Probably :P

Sounds like what I "did".

I messed around, changed something, saved and then changed it back, saved again. Then suddenly it worked. Don't remember what I changed, or why that made it work, but... :D

I have had a similar problem: My pin showed up on worldmap and was clickable. Trail worked fine, but game stopped at "loading...". The area just wouldn't load, no matter what I tried.

Finally created a new area, pointed the pin to that area, and it loaded that one. After that I pointed the pin back to my intended area, and now it worked. Strange behaviour...

I can't seem to get my trail to work. How do you create/define them? I placed my pin and added a trail going south starting from around about the area where Redcliffe is, but whenever I try travelling to my level it just kind of teleports instantly and if a random event happens it seemingly chucks the crossed-swords at some random point on the map.

What I did is put a temporary pin on the map and changed the coords of that one to that of Denerim (my new spot was on the island north of Denerim). You can find the coords of existing travelling points here on the wiki.

Then i rightclicked the map and chose Insert Trail. I put about five trail points, starting from the Denerim pin to my new location. I deleted the Denerim Pin (which was only for knowing where to start), and saved the map. For me, that was all to get the trail working from a random location (it always goes through Denerim, but that's fine with me).

Well that's a good idea. I'll try that. Thanks.

I'm having the same loading issue, tried everything you people said, and it isn't working. I know the area isn't too complicated...it's just an empty test arena I'm using. It has a start point, but that's it.

Gah! The plot thickens! The area wouldn't load, so I had the pin direct me to the Lake Calenhad Docks (fully functional area in game, obviously). Of course it worked just fine as if I'd gone to the original pin. So, I duplicated Lake Calenhad Docks, renamed it as a different area, and pointed the pin to the clone. Didn't work. There is something very, VERY tiny changing between the two that's causing the load issue.

...either that or Bioware's released a bugged toolset and doesn't know how to patch it up.
