Yes but why can't we just get the war assests when we click on the planet? Why do we need a scanning system in place for the planet? It's absolutely unnecessary. It's not like we can run out of probes or don't know where to look.

And if we automatically get all assests by clicking on a planet, there will be complaints over how everything is thrown at you instead. It's a lose-lose for BW.

I'm kinda pissed about this too. It's literally one of the most uncreative ways they could have gone about this. While I wanted freeroaming back, I would have swallowed an alternative down if it had been atleast a little fun. This is just a boring chase scene.
Well I'm not gonna call this gripping or anything, but you've been one of the louder fans regarding bringing back vehicle exploration for some time now, and I never really saw that as standing a chance. I'm just... I don't know man, I guess I've just been what I'd classify (as in, don't take offense) kind of a realist about this system. I didn't expect much and I'm not getting much. For whatever reason I was pretty convinced from the start that this aspect of the game wouldn't exactly blow me away. Probably because neither of the previous games' attempts did, I dunno.

Likewise, combat still feels tight, fluid and familiar. I enjoy playing Mass Effect as a gun-toting soldier, and in-game radials to toggle through both my weapons and skills appeared to be identical to that of Mass Effect 2's.
I don't think IGN understands what Tight and Fluid means. Fluid is not Mass Effect combat, it's clunky as hell. Always has been. When you try to charge you get pulled into a wall, when you want to get away from a wall you stick like hell. Mass Effect 3 added rolling so they added yet another mechanic to add to the clunkiness. This is exactly why you can't take IGN Serious, ever. Worst company in existance.. although GameSpot rocks a close second in extreme bias.

GameSpot's an odd breed. Get on their bad side and your series will never even see a 7.0 again. But yeah, if you're in their good graces expect 9s for the next nine years.

Yea I've definitely been loud on this particular issue but I was hoping they were going to atleast revamp this is in a more signficant manner especially considering the number of complaints about the mechanism in the first place. if they were absolutely determined to stick to this then whatever as long they make it more exciting. Instead they pretty much backed out of it but at the same time tried keeping it. There's no point to planetary scanning at all now. Like none. If they had maybe fleshed out the Reaper minigame then I would not have been happy but again would have sucked it up.
As I said, this really seems like a case of them not knowing what to do with it.

So the guy who has the full game is wrong. Even though he's enjoying it and having fun, he's wrong. What if he said Lagrim has great combat and never feels clunky. Would you still say he's wrong?
...no man, I really am starting to think you're obsessed with insulting that game...

Heh, I remember some folks were like "oh man, it's going to be like KOTOR's turret game" and some were thrilled while others were bashing their heads against the wall. I was just kind of like, "I really don't think it's going to be that in-depth at all" and some folks were replying to me with "what? Of course it will be!"
I'm doing a pretty bad job at articulating myself here but it's after four in the morning. Suffice it to say, at least to a point I agree with you... it'd have been nice if there were more going on here (and I doubt there is, although some believe it so) but ultimately I just can't muster much care about it. I respect that many fans will be pretty disappointed with this but I just... /shrugs
I don't know. Really tired, haha. I just never played the games for these sorts of elements so even when they make scanning pointless it doesn't faze me much. If I were to write a professional review for Mass Effect 3, rest assured, I'd probably dock a few decimal points if the scanning ends up complete as we've seen in the previews. I'd be reasonable about it -- recognize that it's kind of a waste. As it stands, somehow I just can't seem to care much.

Since there are clowns here who like to insult BW, I don't see why I can't insult Lagrim. You know, the very game those same clowns praise.
Skyrim has it's own problems. Combat sucks, redundant quests, crappy graphics. Now get over yourself and disappear.

You gotta admit, it'd be pretty hilarious at this point. If I just randomly outed myself as some mega-troll after all this time. I don't even know what I'd accomplish though. I try to post helpful and constructive stuff often; sometimes I just kind of post nonsense. But I never really... do enough that I could mislead people much.
Did you hear about that dude that apparently trolled the forums pretty badly recently, though? Apparently he was a relatively well-respected bloke that decided to post a bunch of false information. Man, that's crazy.
...I really should sleep soon.

I can somewhat understand this mentality, it's certainly not so much a pain as it was in ME2 which I thought it was far and away the worst mechanism in the game. So I do understand that in the sense that they atleast brought it up to the point where's not a negative. However nothing for me anyway makes it a positive aspect of the game either.
I also don't understand why they kept the individual planet scanning either as it doesn't even work on the timesink level for the developers. It's like left-over code that they forgot to get rid of.

Yeah. Because that's how you review games -- on demos.
He's saying based on the tone of the review and his personal experience with the demo, there are some faults with the game and he's guessing it's going to get a 85%. This is pretty understandable especially when some of the faults the reviewer notes are faults that are in the demo itself.
He never said 'I think the game will get 85%', he said 'I'd give the game 85% based on the demo.' That's a huge difference.
I said based on that which means the videos/comment stuff in the first post. I've played all the classes in the demo so I have a good idea of how the game plays.
That game lacks the the final level of polishing that AAA games should have , feel free to disagree but you can see it just by looking. As such it's worth no more than 85% tops.
