The galaxy map looks ok, comfartable and easy to use.
Although flying arround with the toy normandy and the toy reapers chasing is kinda out of place and appears unintentionally funny. I also wonder what happens wen they catch you. Does the ship vanish in a little *puff* and 8bit music plays as the screen shows GAME OVER?

Other than that I find the functionality is a decent evolution of the galaxy map.

You get locked out and the ship flees the system.

The main problem I have with the scanning is that it seems like it's going to be fairly obligatory if you're not doing MP. And since it's connected to a major mechanic, you can't even mod yourself a whole bunch of resources to skip it without taking away from actually worthwhile parts of the game.

One interesting difference is that the mini-game is more "essential" then before. Looking back at ME 1 & 2, especially the latter, once you hit the minimum value for upgrades (I think less than 20 worlds would give you enough resources for the whole game) , you really don't need any more minerals, thus you could safely ignore the scaning game. Similarly, the hacking and bypassing minigame weren't that essential since all you got was credits.

This minigame looks like one you'll have to do for much longer

Well the plot is around 20 hours according to that German mag but the game is around 40... I really hope its not 20 hours of Reaper mini game.

It's not. Generally, the sidequests are less in number than they were in previous games, but much larger in scope. Loyalty missions on steroids.

Ok nice to hear. But anyone noticed that there are not that many clusters available ? Or are there more to come and is it possible to purchase some new parts of the map like in ME2?

Combat looks nice and all but ive played MP, so I already know how it is. The galaxy map search has improved, no longer do you spend an hour farming minerals in some system. The reaper threat is nice suspense added, but is that it seriously, you just leave the system and they dissappear? I tough if they catch you some kind of minigame starts... I guess not... Guess its just game over or last save.

After watching the Mars section I must say Im happy that the ME1ish helmet treatment appears to be back.
Hazardous environment ->helmet on
Otherwise -> helmet off
Lets hope they are consistent with this and not give Liara a breathing mask while she walks on the surface on Mars.

I guess the scanning game is a way to "encourage" people to play MP.

-Sure. If you cant be bothered and want everything served on a plate instead of keeping in with the lore and immersion.

There's nothing immersive about Shepard taking time out from saving the galaxy to trawl for random trash.

Perhaps, but at the same time, applying time limits rarely works well on a global scale in games.

All in all I prefer haters. They list their reasons, you go through the list and tick off what bothers you. Rants tend to more detailed and specific than universal praise.

What Internet have you been browsing? Most of the time "haters" come equipped with chatspeak grammer, two-sentence posts, and a whole lot of b****ing and whining, not detailed, specific rants. The haters that give you those things are the blessed exceptions that make wading through the crap worth the trouble. Kind of like those ten or twelve actually good fanfics on FF.net.

Since there are clowns here who like to insult BW, I don't see why I can't insult Lagrim. You know, the very game those same clowns praise.

Skyrim has it's own problems. Combat sucks, redundant quests, crappy graphics. Now get over yourself and disappear.

Combat sucks? Crappy graphics? :blink: What version of Skyrim did YOU play? Because with high-res textures on PC, the game looks amazing. I guess combat is subjective to opinion and experience, but it's better that most games if you ask me. Certainly better than The (original) Witcher. -shudders-

Anyway. ME3 combat is looking pretty good. Feels good, except for the accidental rolling. Someone's gonna have to figure out how to mod/fix that on PC to split up the command for rolling from the rest of the actions.

And quoted from myself in another thread on the galaxy map scanning:
The only thing I don't like is the huge empty space on the right half of the screen. It's very unnerving. Should've kept the planet description there or something.

The scanning mini game looks pretty pointless. Fly ship around and press scan button. -_- Same with the planet scanning. They both look like time sinks to me.

I asked Manveer Heir about this on twitter

Q: Can you get the best ending while not doing MP or (much) of the Scanning mini-game?
A: yeah

Speaking of old school, does anyone remember those old games for the Atari that had the little switches that you'd flip up and down in different patterns to get a different game and there were like 20-30 games on the cartridge. That is nostalgia at its finest. :D

I still find myself playing games from the SNES and NES days via modulator. I only wish I had some of my PS1 games around. The cost of having younger siblings I guess.

Oh yeah.  And I used to love the paddle games like Kaboom and Warlords.  Innocent and early gaming era!
