If it's stupid why bother with the genre then? lol

Random pointless fetch quests are fine for certain types of games, but in my opinion they have no place in ME3.

what type of game is mass effect 3 for you ? :wizard:

It's a game where being required to complete frivolous tasks to gain war assets detracts from the seriousness of the situation.

But you're NOT REQUIRED! You can play multiplayer for assets or you can go through the game without all the assets.. things mifght not turn out so well though.

I have no interest in multiplayer.

The reviewer seems really pissed off about the side missions.

The seldom technical issues, and now the side missions might drop this down to a 9 unfortantly (it won't go lower. It's mass effect, and ign has a exclusive, and it's ign nuff said).

But yeah I really don't see the problem with the side missions either. It's nothing new. It honestly sounds if he wrote this review seconds before failing one of those timed missions and all that anger and frustration spilled over into the Q & A. Because, while it's a issue to a degree, it's nothing major and it seems it affected him alot.

Also, I hate that he's playing the ps3 version. No I'm not biased, I own a ps3 myself. But the whole point of the Mass Effect trilogy is to see your actions play throughout. Playing the every man game is unnecessary in my opinion.

C'mon! you have to try it at least once, riding a mech is always fun. Having all that power for a brief moment makes more interesting the battle.

Irrelevant.

And the people who were lucky enough to get their hands on an early edition got their copy from... oh, yes. Bioware. As full retard as the PR stunt was, if Bioware was truly worried about leaks early they wouldn't have gone out of their way to shoot early copies in to the stratosphere.

Uh.... what's your problem? All official reviewers get their own special copies, so why does that make them biased? Or are you just not making any sense?

I'm a big advocate of side missions, even if they arent always pertinent to the main quest. I just hate being stuck in a linear story all the way to the end of a game. But fetch quests are another matter altogether and should be kept at a minimum in any game. I'm playing Dues EX: HR right now, and I don't recall the side quests of ME2 involving the same degree of player choice this game has. What makes it so good is that you can influence the outcome of a side mission on multiple occasions. I'm hoping for this kind of dynamic in ME3.

i like the idea of timed sidequests. it makes alot of sense really seeing as the universe is under attack

The thing is, they'll probably make the game make less sense to me.  Because you'll have to prioritise these sort of minor sidequests over the things which Shepard should actually be doing, whereas I prefer to be able to leave sidequests for when it actually makes sense for them to do it - because, for example, a mainquest is taking them into the area anyway, or because the main quest feels less urgent at that particular time.

It's pretty obvious that this guy was given an early copy by EA in order to hype the game. He did the same thing with KoA.

Or it could be because they release early copies to reviewers especially reviewers that have someone in the game itself.

I'm alright with sidequest bloat, as long as they aren't all fetch quests, but I absolutely HATE any quest being timed. I just want a good variety, with quality like the N7 missions, as well as more random and light like getting the Krogans a fish to eat.

More and more I think this guy (the reviewer) is dumb. I mean just imagine having all the side misisons, and fetch quests involve the reapers. God damn will that get boring in heart beat. It's a video game, video games need variety (even if it doesn't always make sense).

Fighting the reapers in the sm would probably garner the same complaints/

All reviewers got the game early.
The ones who get to put out content are ones who get exclusive rights to do so. They are told what they can disclose. IGN generally gets reviews out early.
It has NOTHING to do with having an employee in the game, it also has nothing to do with "if we give the game to you early, we get a better score" since many games with early reviews by IGN have gotten low scores before.

Yeah - the Normandy was empty - the only war assets were Alliance which looks like it was straight after Earth - but Allers was already on board with a mini studio setup for lovemaking reporting. Also, why the hell does she get a double bed when the Normandy crew have to rotate / share a sleep chamber?

Anyway - it does look like a specifc release with certain things rather than the norm.

First, you don't need to be fighting reapers for the sidequest to be relevant to the plot. Second, he's not saying that a variety of sidequests is a bad thing, just that running around doing people's errands is not a good use of time.

I don't mind irrelevant sidequests if they don't take me too much out of my way.

Anything confined to the Citadel, for example, is easily justifiable. Just assume the Normandy is getting a few repairs done or taking on supplies, and thus Shep has a bit of spare time.

It's if you start being expected to go to different star systems it starts getting silly.

I know, I'm just saying IGN is more likely to get ME3 sooner because of better relations. It's not favoratism, it's a good working relationship that is strengthened by liaisons.

Well seeing as you have the option of her staying on the ship or not, it seems to me that she is a guest of the Normandy and that she is being treated as a guest... which includes a comfy bed. That's how I see it anyway.

I don't have anything against Allers but no way in hell a civilian will be in my ship when I'm going to the war.
