Minor spoiler: the return of ME2-style scanning (disclaimer: no mining)

No, I'm not doing an idiotic "preorder cancelled!" thing, but this looks every bit as lame as the ME2 version, if perhaps slightly less tedious. I wanted exploration to find war assets, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind. <_<

I'd take dukes of hazzarding around in the Mako then Scan, Fire a probe, Scan, fire a probe, Scan, fire a probe, Scan, fire a probe, Scan, fire a probe, Scan, fire a probe, Scan, fire a probe -rambles on-

... it could have been worse.

I'm sure you can still explore to find some War Assets, but given just how many of them there are, this makes the most sense.

WTF is this?? I hope we can land on some of the planets.
Yeah, I liked all the side missions that came with landing on a planet. Raiding Blue Suns bases, rescuing a Quarian from a swarm of varren and boarding ships. I hope they don't take out those side missions.

While I agree that it could have been worse, it's still rather sad. I was hoping for at least some kind of flyover where we'd get a bit of landscape, or a touch of dogfighting or something more than just "radar ping until you run from Reapers." Frankly, to me this looks like padding with an attempt at looking like they're throwing a bone to the exploration contingent.Rulycar wrote...
Probably the best choice from a limited list of options.

Don't know, but I get the impression that it's insta-death. I mean, sure, Joker is awesome and the Normandy's powerful, but one-on-one against a Reaper? Um, no.The Badboy JC wrote...
What happens if the reapers catch you?
Edit: further commentary...
To be fair, I'm pretty sure I remember an interview where the devs said you could find those kinds of side missions this way.Shortstuff820 wrote...

What is wrong with this? This is good. I like this new system. I just hope we can still land on planets to do side missions.
There is nothing wrong with this new system... IF we could land on a planet.

Well there is still N7 missions in the game and unless N7 missions have been changed from ME2, we will still be able to go on planets to do side missions.Viper9009adr wrote...

Can't say that I'm displeased with this, but it's not really spectacular, either. Although I'm very glad we don't have to scan planets for minerals like in ME2 anymore.
Yeah, but I will miss Tricia Elfer's voice while doing this, it was so relaxing (and the Uranus thing was priceless).

Having to land to acquire every war asset would be an annoying feature all its own. Without any confirmed vehicle use an ME1 exploration wouldn't work either.
They went the middle route and its an alright system, not great but not bad.

it says you can import low, medium, or high level resources in ME3 how much qualifies as high resources?

Any answer anyone gave you would just be a guess.

I want to explore planets in a vehicle and see cool new enviroments. Not spam a scan pulse to find some stuff to scan and get chased by mini reapers to a relay. Completely terrible.

Actually it's not.Belv wrote...
Terrible, I'm not going to cancel over something small but I will say I'm disappointed. Bioware said they were going away from the scan planet thing from 2 but this seems almost nearly identical like the OP said.

The previous planet scanning for resources meant you'd drag your cursor all around the planet to find resources, not really knowing where you'd find them.
Now you ping places of interest on the galaxy map (no more going around to every planet) and for planets you are directed towards your goal.
All in all that's a lot less hassle and should make it quite a bit easier and less taxing.
I never found the planet scanning terrible, but it was very tedious. This seems to have fixed that.

I'm more confused about how people could want a return to ME1-style exploration. Aside from a couple of planets, nothing was really unique.
