I've asked a couple of Bioware members about why they are wiping our Multiplayer saves to no avail. I've posted in the proper forums and sent them PM's to no avail. Their standard response seems to be "because I said so" but have not actually gotten a response as yet. I figure they're probably innundated with A.) fan mail or B.) hate mail so I turn to my fellow forumites to draw a conclusion to this problem since honestly users make the world go round... Here's a copy of the edited e-mail I sent to Jessica Merizan:

"I just wanted to let you know that talking to a lot of gamers they are all asking the same thing of the demo. They all want to roll their multiplayer characters over to the game. To be honest with you, with all the negative feedback you've been getting from gamers regarding DLC, Origin, and now multiplayer its starting to make me feel like Bioware is nickel and diming us? Please throw us a bone and reward our work and loyalty. You did it in the ME2 demo when you let us roll our ME1 character into the demo and you even let us pull the character we created in the demo into ME2. This is not going to make the game unbalanced because frankly there is no PvP and all the users that are at 20 are playing at silver and gold levels anyways. The only thing reseting our players will do is aggravate and alienate gamers because we'll end up spending a few more days leveling characters we already had to begin with. Or you could let us keep our weapons (stock) and classes and pull our talent points (take the Halo Reach beta for example where you could keep armor upgrades), but please don't have us playing this game in vain. When future ME titles come out and you try to market it gamers will think, "that's what they say but remember what they did in ME3."

I already posed this to Jarrett Lee and Chris Priestly but I'm asking for your take because frankly your a lot nicer. ^_^ "

So what do you guys think the reason is?

P.S. Chris I would love to earn a lockdown badge for honesty. Free speech doesn't apply to privately owned public forums I guess.

There is no such thing as free speech on a forum.

Where is the punishment? Overreact much?

There are no rewards for playing the demo beyond getting an early experience of the game. But you aren't being punished by not having your MP characters roll over.

How is this punishment?
YOU chose how much of the demo to play.
If you had fun... isn't that enough?
I don't expect them to save my progress in a demo even as much as it does now.
I thought it would reset every time I quit the game.

I don't get it. The fact that every data will be deleted once the game is released was announced even prior to the demo launch. You had the facts and now you are complaining? Give me a break.

I myself play the demo, I love the multiplayer so much that, even despite knowing that all will be lost, I can't stop playing it every now and then and pondering how to upgrade my character's powers. They warned me, I am aware of it and I am fine with because I am an adult and aware of my actions.

Is this for real? It's a demo for crying out loud. You aren't being punished. The sense of entitlement around here is getting out of hand.

It looks like most people have already appropriately addressed the OP's concern about being punished so I am going to say I agree with the thought that not having demo information roll over to full game is not punishment. As others have already said if you play an MMO in beta, your information from the beta is wiped. I played "The Old Republic" in beta and lost a level 10 character. Bummer but hardly punishment. Part of the reason the information probably won't carry over is Bioware will need to set up the online pass for multiplayer access once the game goes public. The OP may have missed the announcement that the multiplayer demo servers will shut down on March 5. I'd imagine this is to transition to the production servers.

As to when a demo has ever allowed a save to transfer to the live game, Nathan Redgrave is correct that the Mass Effect 2 demo did allow you to transfer a created character into the full game; I would say this is a rarity though.

As for "no free speech on a forum"; 1) a forum is a privately owned means of communication so whoever owns the means dictates the terms you had to agree to in order to post here in the first place, and 2) your thread is still here so I hardly think your "rights" are being oppressed.  Opposition or contrary points of view are part of free speech.  If you don't want opposition, don't say anything.

P.S.:  Kudos to Jessica for a very diplomatic response to another "I'm entitled" post.

I know right.

Everybody knew the stats were going to be wiped before the demo came out.. dont punish yourself  by putting so much time in leveling your characters.

If anything carrying over would punish those who didn't play the demo or didn't play much.

They arn't carring it over because they want people to start out equally. Simple as that. I purposefully avoided getting too far in the demo so that I wouldn't get too attached to my progress. Prehaps you should try this in future if this is a problem for you.

So, we've reached the point where early demo access to multiplayer is regarded as punishment.

I love these boards :D

Punishing you? You knew it was a demo. If you can't handle losing all your "hard work" you shouldn't have played it and just waited for the actual game. I never expected the stuff to roll over to the actual game and can't believe anyone thought that it would.

Feeling entitled much?  You get what Bioware decides to give you.  They gave you access to a pretty decent demo for 2 weeks.

Punishing? YOu consider playing a video game a form of punishment? Sheltered, aren't you.

It's a demo with no time limit, a multiplayer part with lots of (upgradeable) weapons with a decent choice of (unlockable) mods to choose from, many characters with different skills (and even all alien races), all difficulty levels etc and people COMPLAIN about that?

The ME3 demo is, in terms of content, of the best demos I have played so far. It was fun.

P.S. Sheppards running animation still suck though xD

This alone is awesome(sauce). And you don't need Gold (on the 360) for the MP portion of the Demo!

So, yeah... B)

Geez I think I'm usually pretty nice! I'm sorry, I know it's a bummer (same thing will happen to me as a player) but we've said from the beginning that mp progress in the demo won't carry over.

You are pretty nice, Jarrett. You are. People are just incredibly antsy in these last days, hehe.

It was common knowledge from the start. Plus, it isn't a form of punishment. Come on guys, talk about exaggerating. You should enjoy a good game regardless, if it's good. It's early access you didn't have to receive. Starting over again when the masses boot it up not only to be expected, it's probably for the best.

I totally disagree.

If everything was to roll over it would make MP grow stale quickly for those with full completion or near completion of all demo available material. While I do like my characters and advancements, I'm not growing attached to them as I know its just a demo and not designed to be ported over.

It was a learning experience about Multiplayer, not an early headstart.

My thoughts exactly.

I would be extremely disappointed if Bioware decided to let people carry their characters and stats over. Besides, that would be unprecedented in gaming history - games never let you import saves or data from demos, just he idea of that is a bit ridiculous.

You already have enough of an advantage because of your experience with the gameplay. It would suck for people who hadn't played the demo to come in at a huge disadvantage with everyone else at level 80 as they're jsut starting out.

Yeah, uhh, if this is pain then crack the whip, BioWare. Suffering your surprisingly solid multiplayer sampling is just, er, so tough.

I guess WoW should give me back all my beta characters. And SWTOR, and LOTR.

Amular should have let me skip the first 45 minutes of the game (actually it should have let me skip to the end).

Don't even get me started on my Halo characters.

Damn, I never realized I got punished so often...

It's not just Mass Effect, wiping stats from demo/betas. you see it everywhere. luckily Bioware has created ways for you to start ahead of most on launch day via Mass Effect 3 Recruitment App on facebook. for every member you recruit who finished the demo, you get a recruitment pack free for launch day. I dont find this as tragic as hitting level 30 in Gears 3 or becoming an officer in the Battlefield 3 Beta only to start over. Just remember that the demo IS NOT THE GAME. It is merely a sampler to get a taste of how leveling up effects the combat, the combat mechanics as well as a dose of the roided up AI with equally roided up graphics.
