Would you be cool with it Bioware decided not to roll over your ME2 character to ME3. No because you just assumed it would roll over. I never read a bioware press release saying we couldn't prior to the demo. If there was one they tucked it in a corner.
Hmm worked for? You were playing a game, it was fun no? Leveling wasn't hard, weapons will come faster with a much wider variety and there will be more maps, different enemies whether I keep my current unlocks or not I'll still have fun.
