Does anyone else hate Jacob?

All the hate he gets? Call it what you want, but ain't because 'he's boring'. 'I like to shoot stuff' Grunt is boring. This is something else.

I said I was paraphrasing, no need to be an ass. "Not even he could screw up what he taught me." There, you happy?
And tone of voice goes a long way in describing personality, and nuances thereof. Jacob was MORE than willing to let his father rot on that planet, and did nothing but ridicule and lecture him the entire time they were there. So yes, I still believe he did resent his father.
You think he's great, I can't stand him, and thankfully won't have to because I'm getting Kaidan back. Someone with more personality than an Ymir mech.
Calm down, I didn't insult you, or call you names. No one's being an @ss.
I think you're forgetting that Jacob's father killed off the other officers, and set up his own private harem of mentally deficient women. Can you really call it "resenting his father" when he is willing to let him rot for that?
And, no I don't think Jacob is just great. I don't really care for any character in the ME series. But it's absurd to say he has daddy issues.
Never said I wasn't calm, its difficult to judge tone online.
I didn't forget anything; and I still think resentment was there, his complete lack of emotion talking about his father prior to the mission, and then his complete lack of wanting to actually resolve anything when he was there, all say "I have a problem with you." In other words, issues with his father; daddy issues. I never said it was a driving force behind his character like with Miranda.
So its "Absurd," depending on your opinion; which is what this thread's about; opinions.

It seemed to me less like he didn't want to resolve it, than he put it in Shepard's hands.
But, since we're arguing opinions now, we'll get nowhere.

Jacob is just boring. Could there have been a worse sole human male romance option for FemShep in ME2?
Even if he isn't your boyfriend, I still don't like Jacob. He's uninteresting and unoriginal. And his body shape looks weird in that outfit...
The relationship with Jacob requires you to push past your own petty insecurities. I admit, I was a little put off when he basically told my femshep to GTFO in the beginning... BUT, when I tried again and gave him a chance, he proved to be a deep and feeling person, with a great deal of sensitivity and insight. He offered honest love and care, and was within his right to demand the same. He was the ONLY LI in ME2 that asked femshep how she was dealing with things and allowed her a chance to vent.
Jacob gets beaten over the head with the same label of "boring" that Kaidan gets. Yet, it is my assertion that both characters have much to offer for those who dare to dig deeper, and do indeed discover the prize of romancing these lovely humans.
The problem with Jacob's romance seems to be Shepard, not Jacob himself.
I agree. Shepards's tone of voice when speaking to Jacob was...
@C9 Why, thank you for fixing my quotes.

You're right; arguing about opinions never goes anywhere, yet you started this by stepping on mine.
I don't *hate* Jacob, I just think its fitting they put him in the armory; because to me, he's just another gun.

I don't think "daddy issues" is an opinion, either someone has them or not. But you seem insistent that it is, so I won't argue with you any more.
And, you DID say you "couldn't stand him." But whatev.

This is another classic BSN thing people do. If a character doesn't provide lots of lore and information, they become "pointless" and "contribute nothing to the in-game universe"; if they do, they're a "walking codex". It's another no-win situation.EternalAmbiguity wrote...

Jacob is just.... meh... wallpaper paste.....
Nothing to hate or love him for, he just fills space.
Doesn't really give you any new background lore which is something that helps Kaidan's case with him giving you codex info on how biotics work and the early days of human biotics.
So basically just mehhhhhhhhh
So your view of characters is based on how much they sound like a codex?
*scratches head*
okay...
Not quite, it's more that Jacob really has nothing else really going for him.
He seems more like a normal soldier on the line, which could have been an opportunity for further exploring the alliance military and more about the cerberus military.
And Jacob is rather pointless, you can take just about any average joe "Sergeant" and replace him and he would be about the same, he really doesn't have anything that makes him Jacob.
*edit* Just saw this got moved to this forum, I'm getting the hell out of dodge.
