I like Jacob, but not enough to talk to him when I'm done with a mission, or even consider romancing him as Femshep. I like how he's a bona fide soldier who salutes fellow officers and is open about his beliefs even if they don't match what Cerberus represents. He's a character who has my respect, nothing more.
It also doesn't help that t think out of all the loyalty quests, his is the one that feels the most out of place and uninspiring. Being an avid hater of all things "daddy issues", I wasn't that interested in his problems nor was the conclusion anything I would consider character development material.
The only awesome thing to ever come out of Jacob's character was Robo Jesus.

Jacob is basically ME2's Alenko. I don't hate him, but he's severely lacking a personality. He's just... He's... He's boring.
He has a good story and everything, but it's just him personally. I just find myself not caring. Garrus and Tali will forever remain the most interesting people in the SR2's crew.

No,OP, you are the only one that does and that's a shame because that must mean you hate good people becasue good people are about you, want to know if you have problems of your own and don't burden you with theirs repeatedly.

Not at all. I might not like him as a romance option, and am more than willing to admit that he isn't as interesting as the other characters in the squad, but by and large I always found him to be very personable. In my personal head-canon I've designated him as my Shepard's favorite drinking buddy and bro along with Jack.

I've only read the first three paragraphs of a really long and dull blog my friend saM wrote, and I've never even played the games for long enough to know who this Jacob chap is, but I can already see that he doesn't sound like someone who deserves so much hate :/

In an arena of dramatic and provocative characters, he is rather dull with no real identifying traits other than being boring. His loyalty mission, where the characters show their colors, displayed a slight sense of honor and a horny father and that was it. No personality, no short or long term motives, no meaning or purpose.
As such, it is difficult to feel anything but apathy towards Jacob. In many, the apathy has evolved into dislike or hatred for he falls flat on his face with blandless and general lack of purpose.

Still, a lot of what was said is "reading between the lines," aka lore-based fan fabrications. Can't bring myself to respect Jacob.

Same reason I liked Kaiden who apparently was also disliked by others for being "boring"
I wonder about these people's social lives as most people aren't as weird as the squad mates IRL.
But a liked Kaiden more since he had more personality ( it was a reserved personality, but it was there and he was my sheps best friend until virmire. Off topic I know but I found the ME1 squad far superior characters to the comparatively flat action-flick team in ME2.

Pfft. He had the affection of the character I wanted as LI. Kasumi. Jealousy is a valid reason to hate him.
