Why am I gonna hate a guy who is just doing his job?
but when I play Femshep I'm like "What the hell is that crack about Miranda needing a better man? And yet I'm good enough? F**k that noise. I'm going to Hagalaz with Liara and make Feron blush."
Two ways this can be taken
1) Bioware really needs to make characters acknowledge gender better, as that is a statement that is offensive to the opposite gender.
2) It was a sarcastic remark from Jacob. It's basically the nicest way one can say "Miranda is a *****" without actually saying it.
I know I've said comments similar to this like "___ deserves better than me" in a sarcastic way that I'm not going to be pandering to their every whim.
For the love of god people, Jacob was being humble. He's a pretty damn good man. Hell, he's a lot like Shepard, and not just in the fact that they're both protagonists. He's just being nice.
There's no reason for people to dislike Jacob outside of his flirtatious voice. Hell, his romance starts off BETTER than Liara's (the best in the series) because it:
a) is HIGHLY organic in terms of male/female interaction when it starts. Jacob buries his feelings and emotions. He doesn't want Shepard to think that he's fragile and insecure. Shepard (fem) prys Jacob into annoyance, so they break up. Its almost as if femShep WANTS to find something wrong with Jacob so that she can fix it. This is accurate to many relationships in the real world, and unique in the Mass Effect games.
A large problem I have with ME3 is that the writing team seemed to take fan feedback one step too far when writing Jacob's character arc. He's already unpopular enough because he's:
-black
-a Carth stand-in
-problemless
-strictly professional with mShep
-a weaker version of Grunt
But in ME3 his romance (from the leaks) appears to be a complete slap in the face. Wow, really Bioware? They aren't even trying to really fix him.

Remember how happy people were when Liara asked Shepard this question in LOTSB? Well in this case, the question, answers, and number of reponses are all superior. Something like six options to reply with. All of them give Shepard motive.

Hey hey now Kaidan is the one and only Carth stand-in. He's even got the same voice actor.
He's insecure about love, so that's a problem, although it is resolved. I also liked having him as a moral center instead of another psycho.
It's only sensible that he'd be professional. His history with Miranda is excellent context for this.
The new girlfriend thing was pretty funny to me too.

I don't have any problems with Jacob as a character; he has integrity, ethical standards, and diplomacy; he was just a little flat for my Shepard to romance and not useful enough in combat to merit using him.
This. He was a good man, just had a rather dull personality. Died all the time in combat too.

It was the same thing with Kaiden I just hated him and never brought him along on quests. Something about the way he talked or something bugged me but unlike Jacob at least he was interesting to talk to about his life.

I do not hate him. I just feel the need to kill him.
Resist the pull of indoctrination. Or the Illusive Man. Whatevs.
He does seem kinda off-putting at times, so I can understand some of the apathy. But as for the others saying he's stereotypical, I really think they need a history lesson before they throw that out there.

Simply, because he´s supposed to be a "normal/average guy", but he ends up being only bland.
He´s honestly probably the most unrealistic squadmate in ME.
Seriously, if he would just stare infront of- and keep to himself, never talk to anyone and have no sexual life, he would be certainly alot more believable. But the fact that he is presented as an average dude with an active sex-life, he comes off unbelievable and odd.

But his combat AI HATES my vanguard. Every time I get in trouble, shields down, better charge, he's right there to pull my target away so I die. And speaking of Jacob and pull... While doing Mordin's mission, I saw Jacob pull a krogan INTO himself, then 'die'. Now, something else may have shot him. But it sure looked like he knocked himself out with a krogan and got my Shepard killed again because I was laughing too hard to find escape.
I usually talk to him, and most of my Sheps will spill drinks on the Citadel with him. But his AI and advice are OUT TO GET ME.

I liked him. He was cool and professional and well aware that his personal crap should in no way supersede the mission. His suspicions were reasonable (not trusting the space ninja & and wanting to space the T-1000 that seemed to have been hunting Shep), his requests were honorable (putting the remains of his dad to rest, even though he was a dead beat and volunteering for the suicide mission on the suicide mission, because that's what special operators really do), and his motivation actually made sense. Dude is a hero soldier. Of course he's on board. .
This. People accuse Jacob off 'not having a personality' but he's just reserved and professional and there is nothing wrong with that. I can understand that some people find him boring or bland since everyone has different tastes when it comes to characters but he doesn't deserve all the hate he is getting.
Personally I liked Jacob just fine. I wanted my FemShep to be friends with him because he's such an honest, upstanding guy but I couldn't talk to him much because of how cringe-inducing my Shepard became toward him during dialog - which isn't Jacob's fault.
Edit: There should be some extra dialogue option to start a romance with a character that is clearly labeled as such. There were several other characters that I could only talk to up to a certain point because if I continued being nice/civil to them (you know, like a normal person) I would unwittingly start the romance with them.
