Or so I have discovered. Running Katana X only and still coming in first place in Bronze and Silver. So do you love this combo or hate it?

Why do people use the Katana over the Scimitar? I run this combo, Scimitar+Edge. Love it!

The only advantage the Scimitar has over the Katana is capacity and clip size. The Katana is more powerful, accurate, and has a faster firing rate and reload time. Plus it weighs less for faster cool-downs.

Actually Scimitar has a faster firing rate.

Scimitar has a bigger clip, I recharge in 4 seconds and it looks a lot cooler....

I actually prefer using the Tempest X and the Predator X with mine, but that's just me.

Scimitar has a faster firing rate. It's the entire purpose of the gun.

Huh?  The scimitar has lots of advantages over the Katana.  Both are viable, but the weapons fill two different roles within their weapon category.

To break it down, best for each stat is:

Weight:  Katana.  The difference is negligable though, so much so that you're unlikely to notice a difference in skill cooldowns during actual play.

Capacity:  Scimitar.  The difference here is also quite small but the value is magnified by the next stat.

Fire Rate:  Scimitar.  The scimitar is noticeably faster.  This is the reason why I use the scimitar over the katana as it allows for more efficient damage spread in multi target environments.

Damage:  Katana.  The katana is noticeably harder hitting.

Accuracy:  Scimitar.  The scimitar is significantly more accurate.  Depending on your play style and reason for carrying a shotgun this might actually be bad, but for me the more accurate the better especially with the higher fire rate.

Both shotguns are perfectly viable, which is better primarily rests on what role the weapon plays in your arsenal.  When I play engineer I have my tech attacks that work great at medium and long range.  I chose the scimitar as my preferred shotgun because it works well at close and medium range allowing for more a little more flexibility.

I prefer Human Engineer. Chain overload is awesome. If she had overload and cryo I'd use her over the human engineer

It depends. My Human Engineer started out with a shotgun, but by the time I unlocked the Quarian Engineer I was level 16-17 and at that time casting time became more important than close-range firepower. So I only carry a pistol.

I could've sworn Quarian Engineer + Shotgun = Tali. I'll run the numbers again to be sure.

I actually too prefer the Scimitar now, but thats because im just to lazy to aim. Katana has higher per shot damage, and thats all that matters for a shotgun, for instant kills or hit and run strikes. Scimitar almost competes with Carnifex already, and the latter wins, but has to aim even more with it.

i run quarian + katana now as well, very fun class indeed, works even better when all my enemies resemble ice cubes, and on silver its a one shot with fire ammo once you remove shields. Can't wait to unlock the claymore.

Engineers are meant to play with shotguns. That's always been my opinion anyway!

Yeah, I hate the damn thing. It has high damage but a normal slow reload, only 8 spare shots, and isn't even damaging enough to 1-shot a nemesis at point-blank. Also it weighs a ton, it ruins my Vanguard while I loved it in ME2.

It does some damn heavy damage to the phantom though. and can easily take out centurions. The only issue is, if you miss you're screwed.

I prefer the Scimitar but that's because I'm kind of a sucky shot. I find it kind of difficult to hit moving targets; I think it's because I'm left handed and have slightly less dexterity in my right hand I would guess and thus find it a little more difficult to aim and shoot at the same time(or maybe I'm just a sucky shot). That's why I loved the Charge slowdown in ME2(and sad that it's gone in ME3); it gave me the precious milliseconds I needed to aim and get a shot off correctly. I also like shotguns more in general since being up close means a bigger target and easier aiming. Sometimes I'll miss the first shot and the extra second faster the Scimitar shoots than the Katana is all the difference between getting hit hard and taking down the enemy.

I recently unlocked the Quarian... Any recommended Shotgun (or not) builds? She's level 18 but I've spent no points yet... My Human is a pistol wielding power spammer, so I'd prefer something that provides a different experience...

If you want to go down the shotgun route then max out your fitness and alliance training. Cryo probably doesn't need maxed but level it enough to get decent duration.

Flamethrowing turret is cool - does anyone know if it causes explosions when flaming a frozen target?
