Basically the geth are building a massive structure around their entire solar system? Is that what we are getting at here?

A dyson sphere is a sphere that surrounds a sun to harvest close to 100% the energy it produces (and theory and science fiction dictate that it can be habitable).
It's hollow inside, and is just a thin crust. Just imagine if the ground you stand on right now, is a 10 meter thick shell, and all the way to the center of the earth's molten core (reprensenting the sun) there is nothing but emptyness.
It can be one solid sphere (although this is highly improbable because it would rip apart as it rotate and is pulled closer and away from the sun by orbiting planets). Or it can be independent platforms freely orbiting around it.
