It is very tempting to think with all the melee bonuses and power available in the Rage chain will provide the best benefit but the simple fact is that on Gold, the Krogan melee is situational BUT also very useful. You simply cannot go off and run and charge everything on Gold (or solo Silver runs for that matter). The true power of the Krogan melee lies in its CC power, albeit limited to one enemy, which will either stun them long enough to line up a Claymore shot (if protected) or knock them flat on their feet. On Gold melee is very useful in a controlled situational way but your primary means of kills remains your Shotgun and/or Carnage Incendiary Grenade. This is why the tree options in Rage should be chosen for increased survivability no matter what. Being able to renegerate shields slightly faster and take one or two bits more of damage is a godsend when playing on Gold and that extra sliver of health is the difference between life or death.
