I don't understand the hate for Jacob. He's by far the best human you can have in your party in the Mass Effect series so far (obviously I haven't played ME3 so I don't know if Vega will be better or worse). Yeah, he doesn't have anything really special about him, but he is very respectful to Shepard, treating him/her as the commanding officer they are. His only issue is with his father, and I don't see him as whiny about it or anything.

Jack, Zaeed, and Kasumi are pretty cool and right up there for me too, but I really don't care for the other humans. Kaiden comes off as whiny to me, and I've never liked that voice actor. Sorry. Ashley in ME1 is very anti-alien and then in ME2 she flies off the handle and yells at you. I don't like Miranda's "I'm perfect, it's just fact" thing. It makes her come off as egotistical and stuck up. She's also so pro-Cerberus and Illusive Man that I really don't trust her.

I like all of the ME aliens you can have in the party. So, yeah. It's just Kaiden, Ashley, and Miranda that I hate.

I didn't really care that much for Jacob. I don't hate. I actually like the guy. But he just doesn't have much to offer my team. His insights are the nice-guy approach. While he works for Cerberus.

At least he's straight with us. If he doesn't like or trust us, he'll let us know. We know where we stand with him at all times. It's much more difficult to tell where we stand with Miranda unless we romance her.

However, seeing Miranda tell the Illusive Man point blank that she quits is very refreshing. Glad they include that if we do Miranda's loyalty mission and take her with us to fight the human reaper. Romance is not a requirement.

Morinth is certainly an evil and self absorbed character. No question. However she does have one quality that Jacob doesnt have.

She is a highly capable seductress and she can kill men and women just by sleeping with them and leave no trace that can be found by most (any?) forensic evidence.

Id set her up with the turian councillor. For starters.

I don't think he will be what you could call the sharpest tool in the box. But I will give him at least 30 seconds before I decide if he should be thrown out the airlock. Speaking of sharp objects, I do however plan to keep all my pens and pins locked away on the Normandy as the guy is no use on my team if deflates like this unfortuante chap. Not that will be much use regardless as the bullets will puncture his fake muscles leading to aforementioned deflation on the first mission.

The Ashes DLC character. I also have resentment towards Tali and Garrus, though I don't hate 'em. And I dislike Kaidan.

Hate 'em:
Turian Councillor: I figured saving his ass would make him a little more willing to listen.
Jacob's Dad: should've done more. Still saved his sorry ass, though

Dislike:
Jacob: just look at his LotSB files: letter from his dad, Alliance stuff, and a workout schedule. Not much to him specifically.
The rest of the original council: stubborn as hell
Harbinger: for the obvious reason.
Miranda: while I'm sure she gets better if/when you romance her, I've never gotten past her ****iness enough to try.
Udina: I can respect that he's got a job to do, but I'm Commander Shepard. I've got a job to do.

Meh:
Samara: she was what I expected. Nothing more, nothing less.
Jack: what I like about her (interesting backstory, emotional breakdown, hilarious to listen to) is counter-balanced by the fact that she's a crazy and homocidal.
Ashley: never connected enough in ME1 to move past the racist phase. Irrational hate created when met the first time around on Horizon. Fixed the problem the second time.

Like:
Kasumi: she's cute, and her little quips always give me a good chuckle.
Zaeed: he can be a bit of an arse, but he's like the grizzled war veteran that's hilarious to listen to.
Grunt: fun to listen to, and he's my greatest fan! (aside from Conrad Verner) I admit I teared a bit when he called me his battlemaster 
Legion: interesting as a source of information about the geth, but also fun in his own right ("... There was a hole.")
Liara: dunno. not a particularly interesting character, but emotionally attached I became. Enough that deciding to betray her was dragged out over several days
Kaidan: he was alright. I, for one, liked his simple backstory, and he was a pretty chill bro. I got past our meeting on Horizon.
Captain/Admiral/Councilor Anderson: I think the only NPC human to believe Shepard; therefore, worthy of liking. Also, Falcoon-Pawnching Udina was awesome.

Love:
Mordin: do I need to explain? The sex talks, the singing... so much Mordin to enjoy
Wrex: particularly in Mass Effect 2. He's badass and knows it, he's the only smart krogan and knows it, and his stories are awesome.
Garrus: more of an emotional attachment than a measurable thing. He's badass. We're ultimate bros. 'Nuff said.
Tali: Same thing as Garrus. Actually went so far as to dump Liara for her. She's so adorable! (Yes, I'm male and said that.)
Thane: though you may call him overly-dramatic, I loved the twist to his personality. Always wanted to hug him and tell him it was going to be okay (but MaleShep, so...). Plus I loved the honorable assassin idea (explains why I love Assassin's Creed too...)

Legion, if I wanted to make friends with the enemy I would have gotten a Batarian before a Geth. I don't like either.
