You know, when I played the demo I was a bit disgruntled by the bad lip-sync. Then I went back and played ME2 again to finalize all my characters and you know what. ME2 wasn't really any better.

You know what I think the problem is?
Better gear (TV/Console/Cable or something)...I think the transfer rate of the visuals/audio is off...

Played the Demo on 360s on big Full HDTV and the lip-sinc was horrible.
Then went upstairs to my bedroom and tried it on an HDready TV with a white Premium 360 on 3-component and there was hardly any...

Perhaps it has something to do with the refresh rate, try lowering it from your Xbox Dashboard?

Lip sync is bad on all platforms, including high-end PCs

The IGN review is on the PS3 version. The lip-synching could be off because of the drop in frame rate during the game. That will unsynch a lot of things.

And I encourage people to watch characters lips in ME1. Lip-synching was never great.

Yea I looked into that and a few people did note the PS3 version had issues with lip syncing in ME2 so it's possible it's just the PS3.

Is it awful of me to admit that I'm hoping a particular port is bad just so that my experience is better?

Not really. It's Sony's fault for creating their own propietary CPU architecture. It's the same thing for almost every game that starts off on PC and Xbox and gets ported to the PS3. PS3 games need to be developed standalone and not ported to work 100%.

So how do you explain other games on the PS3 that runs smoothly? Blaming Sony for Bioware's inability to code effectively is just silly. That's like blaming Sony for Bethesda screwing up Skyrim for PS3 gamers. If these guys want to create games for the format, and expect us to buy them, then they need to deal with its peculiar architecture or not bother at all.

Your point would make sense if Skyrim and Mass Effect were the only games that didn't run smoothly on the PS3 after being ported.

Don't get your hopes up that the lipsync is only a problem on the PS3, it was bad across the board for the demo, so it will be the same for the full game.

Pretty much this.
There was no FPS problem on pc and the problem was there. So if it's not a problem on one platform and if they didn't fix it on PS3, there is not much hope to see it fixed on the other suports.
This is more bothersome on an ME game than most other RPGs, there are so many close ups on the faces in critical moments of the story...

Are you ****ing kidding me? This really, REALLY pisses me off. Of all things for Bioware to drop the ball on, LIP SYNCING?

Way to half-ass it for the series finale.

I have a huge collection of games that run fine. Soul Calibur, Uncharted 1, 2, 3, Resistance, Saints Row 3, etc. etc. Not just exclusive titles, mate.   The issue ultimately is whether Bioware is serious about the PS3, not whether the platform is defective. And, while we're on the subject, I'm a multiplatform gamer, I game on anything from PC, Xbox to the 3DS. Blaming SONY for a developer not coding properly, (or trying to sneak in a quick port for added profit) is stupid. It's passing the buck.  Your anger should be directed at Bioware and Bethesda.

I don't notice any problems on the Xbox 360, or maybe I'm not paying attention to it, I'll look at it closer next time I play the demo.

It's not quite as good as the previous games, but honestly, I still think it's pretty good. I watch a LOT of anime. Anime does lip flaps, but most of it doesn't even attempt to show that the characters are forming the sounds of the words. Most video games are still better in the lip syncing department than most anime.

Also, I played Alan Wake (the original) recently, and that game has really terrible lip syncing for a modern video game. Maybe that's why I'm not bothered by ME3 at all.

Hmm..

Not really disappointed or annoyed. I just wish it was a tad better. I can live with it.

Yeah well as a PS3 player he is kinda right.
No its not the hardware not being capable but its the developers that cant port games right.
Problem is, the CPU is totally fricking different than any CPU in the market!
Its not even simillar to what other CPU's function like.
Heck its a single core CPU with more power than the whole Xbox but to use it properly you need to use SPU's.
And SPU's are hard to code with if you are porting it.
And the GPU on the PS3 is an aging 7800GT clone from Nvidia so you need to rely on the CPU.
The Cell processor can do things that are usually reserved for GPU's but its hard to do it.
Im pretty sure noughty dog was the first developer to do it with Uncharted 2.
The only way to make a PS3 game to run good is to develop it sepreatly.

I have no anger toward anyone. I'm merely stating the reason why some games don't work the way they do on the Xbox, despite the PS3's superior GPU. Sony, however, did choose to go with an advanced and somewhat prototype CPU architecture. They could have just as easily gone with standard CPUs made by Intel or AMD. That's the only thng they are at fault for.

It's the otherway around.X360 has a better gpu, PS3 has a better CPU.
Turns out a better GPU with more ram allocated to it, is better and easier to work for than a more powerful CPU.
That's all. (Oh and I have both x360 and PS3 and a PC as well. I don't care for and I am not interested in fanboyism)

I didn't notice it much. I was more concerned with how my Shep's face seemed to be doing bizarre things. Does it only do it with custom Sheps or is default off also?

I did notice that during the attack thing Shep yells "MOVE!" and she seemed to move her mouth a bit late :(

Come on you can't believe the demo has a different lip syncing system to the final game can you?
