This is a small thread to inquire abouut the stories for the ME2 LIs. In the lead up to ME2 we were told ME1 LIs were not available because they were to integral to the overall love story underpinning the ME series. As it was possible for anyone and everyone to die the LIs were not included in ME2. In the lead upto ME3 we have been told and indeed witnessed the return of ME1 LIs as major characters (and as squadmates) and it seems that they are going to be fully fleshed out an play a large part in the ME3 story. My question is since the ME2 characters were so expendable are they going to be fleshed out/ play a significant role. I have some playthroughs withoout a ME1 romance but a great ME2 one and so on and so forth. As of now te LIs have been confirmed to reappear but in what capacity hasnt been really explained.

Im just curious to see if Miranda/Thane etc are going to get the same level of treatment in the final game. For those who have read the leak can you just alay my fears/ confirm the worst without giving too much away

They appear in reasonably large roles where appropriate, and there are romance conversations (plural) when you meet them. It's not as like they disappeared between Mass Effects 2 and 3.

But bear in mind that 50% of players never completed a romance in ME2. Bioware have written quite good 'relationship' conversations with ME2 characters in ME3, but they aren't going to be huge.

The fact that all the ME2 LIs can die also means their roles can't be critical to the story - some play *huge* roles in separate parts of the main quest, and influence enormously how individual segments of the sub-plots work out, but they aren't going to be essential to the critical questline.

Doubtful, unless the player romanced a different ME1 character and then took a new partner to bed in ME2; so that this particular love triangle aspect can be specifically addressed in a brief dialogue snippet. Unfortunate, to say the least!

I've decided to just form a new romance in ME3, if that is possible, and to hell with previous ones (since my own preferred love interest originated in Mass Effect 2). It seems pointless to identify who that character was, since they have been marginalized into a supporting role, and no matter how the finale plays out; this person will not constantly be by my side

Thanks its kind of what I feared but perhaps not as catastrophic as I thought. Im pretty happy with Liara and Ash anyway. I dont know th squadlist for ME3 so maybe a new one is viable

That is surprising to me. New players to Mass Effect either didnt (or didnt realise they could) pursue a romance. Either that or people were a lot more faithful than I anticipated

I was really surprised by that as well. There's a chance loads of people had imported ME saves and didn't cheat, of course.

There aren't really many new LIs in ME3, but I don't want to spoil anything if you haven't checked the squadlist yet. Apart from some new same-sex options and a Kelly-esque fling, the rest of the LIs are familiar characters.

I know a few (spoilers coming for anyone else looking at this post)

EDI, Prothean, Vega, Garrus, Liara, Ash/Kaiden, but thats about it. I know there is a male and female gay LI (Steve Cortez? and someone else) but thats it

According to this post only 13% romanced no one

A Dorkly article, Love & Videogames: A Valentine's Day Infographic, listed, among others, the results of a poll about who player's romanced in Mass Effect 2, the results were:

Miranda - 42%
Tali - 26%
Jack - 6%
Jacob - 1%
Garrus - 5%
Thane - 2%
Kelly - 4%
Samara - 2%
Morinth - 1%
Nobody - 13%

For those who chose to romance nobody, I wonder how many of them were choosing to remain loyal to their ME1 love interest, and how many of them simply didn't find any of the ME2 LI's interesting or are holding out for a same-sex romance.

I was also surprised by Tali's and Thane's placing, given the amount of fan support they both have, but I suppose a Yvonne Strahovski's face trumps adorable Quarians and terminal Drells.

Thoughts?

Ashley and Liara are there since the first moments of the game. ME 2 LI are not as important for this as they were in the previous one.
