The Viper Sniper Rifle - badly designed ?

Just... this... thing... called Viper... I can't stand it no matter what I try. And thats due to the fact I can't hit anything at all with it and when I do, we all know how bad it's dmg is anyways. Trust me I know snipers I know how to aim I love infiltrator etc. that's not the issue.
The main problem is the huuuuuuuuge zoom the rifle has which works terrible combined with its recoil and the fact that u need more than one shot 90% of the time to down a target. Add all the explosions shaking the screen, you getting shot which also shakes you... and when you zoom...well... I sometimes can't hit a freakin Atlas.
So, thoughts ?
My suggestion is lower it's zoom rate by... alot that should atleast fix the problem to some extend.

Of course when something was awesome in that game Bioware killed it in this game. Maybe they did this to make the Incisor more useful.

This is relevant, by the way.

How does putting a scope on a handgun make it shoot like a sniper rifle anyway? Just because you put a scope on a gun doesn't make it sniper accurate all of a sudden. If you put a scope on a shotgun it won't make all the pellets hit where the scope reticle points.
This is relevant, by the way.
Well that is not really true in mass effect because there is no bullet drop and spread on phalanx and carnifex is so low, when you are behind cover, that you can just headshot away anything easily at long range with higher rate of fire making the M-97 worse than a handgun with scope which is kind of silly.

Bioware still appear to be amateurs when it comes to weapon balance. IMO pistols should have a big damage drop at long range, so they can't be used as effective sniper rifles.EsterCloat wrote...

The Phalanx does more damage than the Viper considering the higher ROF (I didn't make the calculations, that's just an assumption) and is accurate enough for headshots at long range. That makes it act like a decent Sniper Rifle IMO.
Edit: Fixed a mistake with the Phalanx's damage.

No it doesn't. Phalanx does half of the damage Viper does. Carnfiex, on the other hand, is more powerful than Viper (about 20%).

*Edit to the above.
The differences the two of you are seeing are the targets you're hitting.

You're right, sorry about that. Still, the higher ROF makes the Phalanx more effective, probably has a higher DPS too.

The Valiant DLC sniper fires 42% faster, hits 72% harder with a far better recoil (Scoped recoil 1 versus 0.137?!!) with the same reload speed.
For all this it has 3 round clip instead of 6.
Great balancing Bioware.

Valiant sniper rifle sounds like the bomb diggity.
When you take into account it's reload speed, clip size and firing speed it outputs more damage then the Widow.
While weighing half the amount and carrying more ammo.
It's annoying that you have to buy the Collectors Ed. or Deluxe Digital to get it though.

Otherwise, you'd hear me say "please finish off that low-ass centurion" over voip a lot, and guardians, aside from their shield, are made of wet toilet paper; anything will kill them effectively if you flank them.
Its shortcomings are apparent when you are using it against phantoms and atluses though.

The problem with the Viper is the rate of fire. It's the same as the Mantis and the Widow.

If I was Bioware I would make the Valiant even more accurate, but I would make the Viper's RPM 150. Precision vs "Spammability".

Well, people paid money to get this stuff, so yeah. The N7 shotgun and sniper rifle are both okay/good, but the pistol seems to suck (less damage than predator) .
