In preparation for the imminent release of the third game in the trilogy, I've purchased Mass Effect, considering I've wanted to create a canon Paragon FemShep, whilst keeping Ashley alive throughout the three games as the default ME2 save as FemShep, decides that you've saved Kaiden instead. Fortunately, I was able to find it dirt-cheap for only $15, it's worth it, despite being drastically different from Mass Effect 2, while I've preferred the latter, the first still has got it's own merits, especially the heavier presence of RPG elements, elevator rides ( Yes, definitely ), cool down weapons system and grenades, you can also holster your weapons. But unfortunately I absolutely despise the Mako segments; very redundant, tedious and frustrating. Its controls feel very loose, and its weaponry is almost insufficient. Hell! I even prefer the plant scanning sequences in ME2. One thing that's been absolutely bugging me is the auto save feature, which doesn't seem to save frequently, bringing you back to a great point backwards upon death. Also, something not as significant is the inability to romance as a potential love interest. If I did it, it would be for the achievemnt, but as a FemShep, it's only possible to romance either Liara ( which's weird ) or Kaiden, which is even weirder considering I'll leave him to die in Virmire ( or whatever its called. ) And I'm playing as a Vanguard, where the **** is my Biotic Charge? Does it eventually get unlocked? So, what are your opinion about Mass Effect and how it compares to other games in the trilogy? Are you excited for Mass Effect 3? And how are you preparing for it, if it all?

The only preparation I have been doing is to make sure that I done all the story DLC for my paragon Sheperd.
Arrival was a good way to end it and set things up nicely for ME3.
As much as I'd like to, I don't think I would have time to finish my renegade femshep (have created her but I'm near the start)
Could I really do another playthrough in time? I have 12 days.

There was no vanguard charge in ME1 - that was introduced in ME2, as were many of the other class specific abilities you get in ME2.
As for the Mako sections, as you get more used to the controls I think they get easier. The weaponry is pretty powerful actually - you can whipe out most ground units with a single shot of your cannon. The only thing that you need to note is that the cannon doesn't bend downwards, so if you are tilted on up-sloping ground, trying to shoot at enemies at the horizontal level or below, you'll be shooting at the clouds instead.
So you need to either be on level ground, or down slope to hit a target at a horizontal level or below.
Some planet quests do involve quite a bit of driving around though, and a few planets have very rough terrain, which makes these worlds a bit tedious - though there really aren't many places where you need to struggle to climb a very steep angle, if you plan your routes using the map.
I kinda like most of the mako sections now, though initially I didn't.
There's one planet quest though that I can't figure how it didn't end up cut from the game (the one involving the monkey chasing). It's the most tedious, least interesting quest in all of the ME series, I think, and whoever thought it would be fun to play through has a concept of "fun" that is completely alien to me.
I liked some things in ME1 better than in ME2, and some in ME2 better than ME1. In ME2 the classes feel more distinct from each other, I think, though I liked the ability to switch armor and customize armor and weapons in ME1 much better.
The inventory system in ME1 could have been better implemented though, and there was too much redundant loot. Also, by maybe halfway point in the game, I'm always so wealthy that I don't have any use for money really - I can afford to buy everything I want. This is better handled in ME2.
Didn't like ME2's "mission" style though - ME1 had a more natural flow to the game and story, I think. I agree with you on the lack of variety in potential love interests in ME1, though the romancing part hasn't been that essential to me in the series.
Out of the two, I'm hard pressed to select which is the better game overall.
Looking forward to ME3.

Hybrid classes in ME1 are just that, hybrids, rather than different classes with unique abilities. Vanguard is just a soldier/adept, and its abilities are picked from those.
The Mako is just... slow, and the general orography doesn't help. The Hammerhead may be ridiculously fragile, but at least it's fast and I prefer that over the Mako.
As for how both games compare, there may be exceptions, but in general, IMO, ME1 is better story wise, while ME2 has a better gameplay.
PS: OP, next time you could make your post a bit less wall of text-ish.
