Just recently got into Infiltrators (level 11) it's super fun, and got a Salarian super quick. Lucky me. But I just got some recent upgrades with my shotgun and so far, I have been doing REALLY good with it. I am getting atleast a score of 40000 each game. But I see all of these sniper upgrades, and I feel a little guilty that I am not sniping. Is it ok for infiltrators to use shotguns?

No. I have seen infiltrators with shotguns be very effective too. That extra bonus damage at point black range kills pretty much everything from stealth.

No you don't HAVE to use anything.

Most effective infiltrator guns however are one-shot ones. Sniper/Pistol/Shotgun.

You are doing fine with shotgun.

It sounds like you are using a CQB Infiltrator.

And do not feel guilty!
It's very, very effective setup after all, right? : )

Only bad infiltrators use snipers on gold.  Going heavy pistol with a carnifex is the best build, but shotgun is decent, probably equal to a widow build unless you ignore weight and go claymore.

Widows can't one shot on gold, Claymores can.

Close range infiltrator with shotgun is pretty effective I hear, I'd try it but not unlocked Salarian yet.

Also I could see you running around with just a Carnifex being an option.

No class is "locked" to certain guns. Use the gun that pleases you the most. :)

Since you get a sniper rifle damage bonus of 40% with the last camo upgrade, It would be waste not using a sniper rifle.

Have you been rocking out the Hornet?  Or are you playing some of the release-version SMGs?  Really looking forward to those.

Thanks guys. I knew I wasn't the only weird infiltrator. I use a Hornet SMG with my shotgun so I am a pretty big powerhouse infiltrator. I may try using my Carnifex though. It can be my alternative sniper rifle.

The Hornet though, I will tell you, is POWERFUL.

False.  Play Gold.  Try and one shot a nemesis, or phantom, or centurian, or anything with shields.  Tell me how much that 40% damage upgrade helps.  Post it here.

As an added bonus, find a mob that has 1 bar of shield. and try to headshot kill him with a widow as an infiltrator out of cloak.

Screenshot it.

I wasted my last cloak upgrade on that 40% upgrade. I kind of regret it. Though the other last upgrade isn't so good either, it would still be better for an infiltrator like me. Good thing this is only the demo.

I use the viper, even on gold. Finished gold several times now, btw. Using a widow on shields and barriers is your own fault because it's the guns biggest weakness. :P

The time you try to kill a Nemesis with the widow(!) and reload your gun, I have already killed it with the viper. Not in one shot, of course. It's not the pure damage that counts. As a sniper you have all the time you need and the distance. And the can kill pretty fast.
Not to mention that I did a mistake on my infiltrator and haven't even activted the 40% damage camo sniper boost...

Yeah, Viper is probably the easiet (and IMO the best) sniper rifle to use do to it's fire rate.

Hmmm, this is a thought. I have unlocked some good shottie upgrades and I have a Salarian infiltrator. My biggest gripes with the sniper rifle are the rate of fire and the disorientation caused with the aim telescoping when enemies get in close to me. I might swap out for the shottie and try a few rounds that way; I don't mind getting closer now that I can reliably hit my drain key.

Due to the nature of cloak infiltrators are not really limited in weapon choice, with some incentives to keep it a primary "sniper" class though.

The vanguard on the other hand may have trouble using charge with a sniper...

Problem with Gold is that you can't one-shot anything that has a Shield or Barrier. I honestly think that should be changed. If you headshot something in Gold with a Widow, it should die, period. Otherwise, Widow/Mantis are both useless on Gold because you can't kill anything but Troopers/Guardians with a headshot, or you have to rely entirely on someone else stripping shields/barriers (unless you're Salarian and can do it yourself).

I've been running as a human female shotgun infiltrator lately (after playing my Krogan Soldier for a long while) and I have to say it is amazingly fun. On my Krogan I was just grinding credits for the Asari Adept. Since switching, I'm no longer seeing the game as a credits grind.

Cloak, ambush, kill. Just be really careful when facing mobs. You'll have to get in and out quick.

Anyone tested whether you can get 1 shot kills on gold with the disruptor ammo?

No. They are just the best suited for Sniper rifles since Cloak gives a damage boost and so a single shot weapon works best with that. Shotguns would work with this too but shotguns suck.

ALSO:
If you use a bolt action sniper rifle you can half the reload time. When you reload a bolt action the animation has 2 parts:
1) putting the bullet in the chamber
2) sliding the bolt back
You need to do 1) but 2) is not needed. You can interupt the reload animation by performing "an action" such as entering/leaving cover, hacking, healing, sprinting or using a power. Most powers take a second to shoot out, but Invis is instantaneous. And it works even if it is off cooldown.
It is basically a Gears of War style Active Reload.

Again;
1) fire a bullet
2) wait for the round to be chambered
3) press invis (even if it is on cooldown)
4) you are ready to shoot again.

All classes can do this and I think it works with some shotguns.
Infiltrators can do this better than any other class since invis has zero casting time.

In the retail game, once I get the black widow, that's going to be my infiltrator gun. It doesn't do as much damage as the widow, but you get three shots before reload.

In the demo, shotguns and pistols definitely make more sense, though.
