So Maybe I did something wrong, when I killed the mother the game went to the epilogue then to the credits. I was hoping it would be like infamous or something and I could still run around in the game fighting enemies and stuff. Did I do something wrong or is this what happens when the campaign is finished?

That's what happens. Remember that Awakening is just an expansion to the original game. It's not as involved and the threat isn't as large as in DAO, so there isn't really a call to have a final DAO-style throne room scene where you talk to people and then head out to greet your adoring public after killing the Archdemon.

So what about in origins can you still run around and do stuff or when you complete the campaign is it over as well?

after completing origins you can go to your camp and do dlc quests (stone prisoner, return to Ostagar, and Warden's keep) if you haven't already done them but nothing else
