First of all, I'm assuming that "Story Mode" is identical in every respect to "Role-Playing Mode" except the combat is way easier in the sense that the damage done to enemies is way higher.

Now, considering that there are multiple levels of difficulty in the game, could I play on Story mode on the Hardcore difficulty, get the upgraded enemies you'd get in ME2 while at the same time make Shepard feel more powerful than he/she would have been on Hardcore Role-Playing mode?

And as a side question: is the only difference between Role-Playing and Story the damage done to enemies?

Story mode is
1. "Narrative" difficulty
2. Auto level up

So by changing difficulty to Hardcore you'll end up with normal Hardcore game and your character being auto-leveled.

Do we know for sure that this is the case?

Wait, can you really not turn off auto level up in story mode? That's going to annoy me to no end if so...

you can change to roleplaying before yo level up , level , and go story mode again, the mode can be changed when you want to

You know, I actually messed around with the options in the demo. I actually was able to modify the difficulty of my playthrough.

So if you want an easier game like you get with story mode but want to control how your team levels up, select RPG mode and then when the game starts, pause it and go to gameplay in the options. Then switch it down to easy.

I assume the opposite would be true. The options to go higher in difficulty were there as well.

I'm interested in getting better equipped enemies but at the same time have Shepard seeming powerful. So I don't want an easier game. I want a "realism mod" as it were. A way of making ALL damage greater while not giving myself (or the enemy) an advantage.

The three modes are just bloody Options menu pre-sets, possibly with Quick-Start Shepards stapled onto the front-end depending on the mode. Everything about them apart from the character you create can be changed at any time in the options menu... in fact, it says so. Right there. In the text box that explains what the modes are for.

So yeah.

Indeed. Both three modes and anything in between can be achieved via tweaking the gameplay options, namely Difficulty and Decisions, with the added benefit of being fully able to customise your character's appearance, class and skill development.

Play RPG, normal difficulty.

Oh, forget about it. I'll have to see about modding the coalesced or something.
