I'm new to this part of BSN so apologies if this has already been asked. But how are MP experience points awarded when multiple players kill a target?
In other words, if I'm targeting an enemy and I reduce his health to 1 point. Then if someone else comes along and kills the enemy before i've had a chance to fire the last shot, does the other player get more experience points than me just because he killed the enemy?
I don't mind the other player getting the notification credit for the kill even though i did most of the work. But I'm concerned about experience points.
Are experience points awarded per kill or per damage dealt? Or are the points awarded equally between me and the other player?
How are MP Points Awarded?

I'm sure they're awarded on damage dealt. Because you get over 900 points for killing a Phantom, whilst Assault Trooper is usually over 200. But when I kill them sometimes I get under 70. That always happens when they have low health points.

Experience points are gathered into a pool and shared in the same exact overall quantity among all players.
You can kill steal or be kill stealed and get the same points.
Hell, you can Idle and get the same points.

I know you get kill points and assist points. I think in your example you get assist points and you would get quite a few because you did the lion's share of the work on taking the target down (as many as 200 or more). If you just barely clipped the guy with one pistol shot and your buddy did the heavy lifting, you might get like +40 assist points or something.
I don't know if the kill points are the full amount for whatever the enemy is or not. I generally play a human adept, so assists are often my bread and butter.
But yes, all the totals are shared equally at the end. Still, it's better to be an active player and do your best to help the team than to do nothing. You also get points to racking up headshots and biotic kills and special things like that. I've been earning medals for headshots with my pistol lately and you get bonus points for getting +5, +10 and then I think it might go up to +25. But you get bonuses at the end of the match for those that are again shared out equally.

Everyone gets the same amount of experience at the end of the match, it's pooled and everyone gets an equal share. The board at the end just shows who earned the team the most. At least I'm pretty sure that's the way it works.

Not share, everyone gets everything.

Gotta be based on damage. I've had 800+ point assists going against an Atlas.
