I don't think that fatigue is your problem. . .:P

Also, a hotpocket inside a hotpocket sounds like an amazing food product; I'd buy twelve

That's why it's unofficial, yes. It is always better to wait for an officially QA'd patch.

the hotfix only does change

a) daggers to work as they should
B) shortbows to be better in the hands of dexterity users
c) improve all bows and crossbows.

nothing more, nothing less

and yes, it's unofficial - which means just that.

Dex hotfix supposedly reduces base armor of sten/shale/alistair.

Interesting, but the hotfix does not touch any of the armor fields in the source 2da.
The base armor of all characters is set in script and then by class, both of which untouched by overriding the base_item 2da.

However, as for shale, the hotfix uses the base source 2da deployed with the toolset. If that 2da does not include shales crystals, then all crystals will be malfunctioning. I'll see if I can fix that by removing the crystal lines completely from the 2da.

That's awesome Georg. Thanks for all the time and personal support you're giving this game. Any idea when this updated hotfix may be ready? Not to put any pressure on you or anything though.

what if we created a giant hotpocket house inside another house crafted with hotpockets within hotpockets ...
truly,
a recursive delicacy!

but wait :?

what hotpocket inside hotpocket combo would be the best?! time to iterate!

zombie apocalypse if this occurs i fear. but the dark lure of the hotpocket draws me closer to forbidden microwave magic!

Damn so my Shale is bugged forever then? (atleast on this playthrought). No way to fix my game then? not even removing the hotfix and destroying all my crystals and then maybe adding then again by console(no idea of how to do that actually)

Using the hotfix that you made georg i have only seen a significant improvement in ranged weapon damage and accuracy. Perhaps this is more todo with an increase in the ability of enemy archers than it is with tanks specifically. Tanks already had a hard time in the vanilla rules without an increase in long range effectiveness.

Georg, it seems it's not really like that.
I made similar hotfix to yours (just tying dagger to str/dex and crossbow to dex, with no other rebalaning), using itemstats.gda packed in the game data files (not from tooset, toolest 2da source is missing, or at least I was not able to find it). See my sig.

It had same issues with Shale too (that itemstats.gda does have some Shale entries, by the way).
But, if installed to (My)Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\modules\\Single Player\\override folder (if it doesn't exist, just create it), Shale armor crystals will work properly, as well as the hotfix itself.

So anyone using Gerorg hotfix, please try the same, and see if it resolves the issue.

I guess the other override folder just doens't work well with DLC content, ignoring some changes that DLC should impose.

There are two sets of override folders:

Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override version and

Dragon Age\\modules\\single player\\override version.

Both can be found in in game install folder as well as in (My)Documents\\Bioware folder (see below).

Still, Documents version of Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override doesn't exist if no toolset is created (but is perfectly functional if created manually).

Hotfix interfering with Shale crystals only happens when using Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override version of override, not with Dragon Age\\modules\\single player\\override version.

I moved the files from mydocuments/bioware/packages/core/override (where they worked) to the folder you said and the hotfix stopped working for me.

Shortbows are useless because they're completely outclassed by Longbows. The hotfix alters that by making Shortbows 100% Dex, thereby making them stronger for pure-Dex archers.

Not a very logical change.

weird. I did the same thing and it is working perfectly. plus, the crystals I have in my inventory suddenly began showing armor & damage values; so if that was the real reason for messing with Shale stats I wont be having any problems (Though I have only finished Ostagar so I cant tell for sure). Try checking the folder names, the one I manually created was named Documents and Settings\\(useraccountname)\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\modules\\Single Player\\override

After using the hotfix on Georg's page, I get a weird reading for lieliana's defense. Post hotfix is says something like 69 + NaN with the "NaN" part being in red.

Sheesh, I love Bioware games, but they are lousy at QA and polish. Simply terrible at it. And its a longstanding company problem. Makes me wonder how the KOTOR MMO will do, especially with PvP. Heh.

Great game tho, bugs notwithstanding.

ummm, no.

Given the size and scope of dragon age, and the relatively few problems, they did an absolutely fantastic job with the QA and polish... Have you seen the state that a lot of games, particularly pc games, are released in now? Dragon Age is way more stable and polished and reliable than them.

It does no such thing. Perhaps you should find out all the facts before crying "Wolf!".
The hotfix screws up Shale because it screws up Crystals. Shale generates with messed up equipment, thereby screwing up his stats.
The hotfix is only truely necessary to make daggers behave properly - they should have damage from Str and Dex at 50:50, as documented. Currently, it's 100% Str, which is not intended.
Everything else is additional stuff that's under balancing/testing.
There's a dagger-only mod available that doesn't mess up Crystals (and thus, Shale).

Could you enlighten me about this bug with Shale's crystals? I've just done some searching within this forum and outside of it, and I can't find any information about this.

Furthermore, do you know if this screw up is permanent, or is it something easily remedied by just removing the hotfix? I imagine its the latter, but the way you worded your post worries me. If it's a bug that lingers on past the removal of the hotfix, I may have to revert to an old save way back to fix Shale Posted Image

it was my understanding that the hotfix just prevents shale from getting it's (smile) set bonus from having two of the same type of crystals

I just tried that results were bad.
For shale without the overrides it has a base armor of 0 and a defense of 48
For shale  with the overrides in the  package core overrid folder it had a base armor of 4  and a defense of 48 without crystals with them shales armor went to 4 but defense when to 51 ( crystale showed a +3 defense )
For shale with the overrides in the single player override folder  it has a base armor of 0 and a defense of 48 whithout crystals with them shale had a armor of 4 and a defense of 51  (crystale showed a +3 defense )

in none of the three versions did shale get a set bonus for have matched crystal sets

Ummm, yes.  Since Baldur's gate Bioware produces massive games filled with balance problems and glitches.  The glitches and balances problems are "under the hood" and ya need a combat log to see em.  Tis true and no amount of "umm, no" changes it.

Nice try tho.

And again. I love their games, but the QA they do is on the chrome and polish stuff, not the details of powers and spells. BW has always shortchanged us there, and DAO is no exception.

I don't think they have done all that bad. Tis true and no amount of "umm, yes" changes it.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't Shields supposed to be strong vs archery? Has something gone wrong with Shield defense vs Arrows?

Note that save game keeps current armor value, and chaning armor doesn't recalculate it, but changes armor value to difference between armors.

What you have shows that in pakage core, there is no difference whatsoever what crystal you put (always 4), which means that armor stat doesn't work (as reported), while with single player override it actually changes armor if you equip or remove it. What is an issue here, is that when you loaded your save with armor stat of 4 with proper override folder armor still stayed at lower value of 4.

There is an workaround! Use old package core override and remove armor. It will stay at 4 (due to bug :D). Then make a new save game, exit and put hotfix in single player single player override. Now base armor is 4 (due to save value). Get some armor, and it will increase properly. Hope it helps.

It does look like moving the override will fix things.  I moved mine from

<games root dir>\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override

to

My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\modules\\Single Player\\override

and the hotfix is still functional, plus damage and armor values started showing up on my crystals.  (I was wondering how those actually worked...)   Haven't actually done the DLC to pick up Shale yet, though, so I don't know if he himself is borked.

Thanks for your workaround. However I'm still having problem with attack crystals...
The values show up as it should be, but with or without the hotfix, when I unequip/re-equip it the stat changes as if those white values (damage/armor penetration etc) does not exist...
Anyone has a fix for that?

Am I the only person annoyed by the term "hotfix" being used for this?  A hotfix is only a hotfix if you don't need to restart the game.  Hence the "hot" part of the word.

Yes, you are the only one. Since when did 'hotfixes' have such a specific meaning? They've always been considered minor changes that affect a specific issue released outside the patch schedule.

I think you're getting mixed up with workarounds.
