Lagrim? Writing? Can anyone remember a single memorable character or dialogue exchange?

I'll use the Plinkett method. Describe a character in Lagrim without mentioning what they look like, their profession/role or their clothing.

NOT A CHARACTER DRIVEN RPG.

I don't think you understand dungeon crawling genre. And if you must have one, Paarthurnax, easily the MOST memorable character in the game.

Op the problem is story content should have been put into the game during development . but you should blame Microsoft since the DVD 9 format is so pathetically outdated for storage use . I am not sure if the a dlc for the PS3 or not . but ths falls on Microsoft 's fault. EA and Sony have release a digital pre order of the full Mass Effect 3 game on the PS3 for sale . Microsoft needs to get with the times

you have no idea what the issue being discussed here is do you? if you're gonna bring up storage space why not cheese burgers while you're at it? you would be equally relevant

Well, the real world worked fine without significant payed for day 1 DLC for a long time.

I think that was mostly 'cause there wasn't DLC at all, actually. Just shooting spitballs in the dark here, but...

Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue would like a word with you...

Red and Blue are the exact same games (same code and everything) except that certain values are changed...

Ok even though I know you are a simpleton troll I will bite.

The meeting with the greycloaks first 2 times.

The thieves quest with the brewery

Helping the kid kill the evil lady at the orphanage that whole bit was great.

The Forsworn and Markarth.

Sheogoroth "CHEESE FOR EVERYONE"

Need I go on?
Hard for you to believe i know but some of us think Skyrim is a great game.  IS the writing the best?  Of course not but I don't play those games for that anyway the free roam fun that it offers is bar none and the modding OMG the modding comunity alone!
Oh the best part I bought a game fully packaged no first day DLC... hard to imagine these days.
So please go take your venom elsewhere because you're a really boring troll.

Since instead of getting "From Ashes" as our "Project $10", we get the multiplayer pass.

What is your response to Bioware's defense of the launch DLC?

But the point of the two versions is to trade in between them....not get both, and trade with yourself.

Haven't read the rest of this thread....but I'm actually surprised that yeah, this is actually a genuine way it took away from it since if it wasn't for the online pass, the prothean would certainly be the first-day dlc.

you must have assumed i did'nt know about the skyrim forums. i practically lived there for moths before skyrims release. it was 99.9% positive pre release. post release maybe 85% positive? since dragon age 2 the bioware forums have been decidely less positive.

you must know its nowhere near as bad there as it is here, not even close.

also, negative threads die down after a few months? have you taken a look any ANY DA2 FORUM ANYWHERE? they've been going strong with regular negative threads for a year. no need for looking back a bit they'll be front and center.

The reason there were few negative threads was because Bethesda didn't release any important information until about a month or two before the game came out.

The reason the DA 2 thread is more negative is because:
A) DA 2 is not the Bioware standard (IMO) whereas Skyrim is basically on par with it's predecessors
B) Most TES fans are in their older ages considering they came to TES with Arena or Daggerfall so they tend to be a bit more mature

And 85% is way too high.

i SILL dont get why the massive design change with DAII which is a shame becouse i loved DA:O one of the best RPGs have played in a long time
why did they feel the need to water the game down like that for DAII ill never know

Most have to do with shifting to a voiced protagonist.

If you take KOA as an example. Silent protagonist, multiple races. If they were voiced you would likely need 8 voices.
This is also why Hawke was human. Leaving out a gender was never really an option.

With a voiced protagonist you need a story that fits. Prior Bioware games you have always been a something (aside from ME) rather than a someone. Child of Bhaal etc.

Had they actually done that in a decent game rather than half ass it. It may have turned out differently.

I don't think it's particularly relevant to this thread, which is more about the multiplayer.  But in general I don't feel it really addresses my complaints about the practice.

Bethesda actually cares about maintaining and building onto their hardcore fanbase though.  unlike some devs........

IF handled correctly there is a level of loyalty that a dev can build with their fanbase that transends normal consumer logic.

with bethesda for example i bought oblivion twice, once on 360 then later on ps3. i also baught morrowind for pc and later on xbox.

which is totaly nuts when i think about it but thats the kind of thing you do when you feel that kind of loyalty to a dev.

Bethesda no longer cares about us PC gamers though still yea at least they aren't ripping players off...anymore. I never bought the horse armor but Skyrim is an excellent game and unfortunately it has better writing then recent Bioware games. I said RECENT. I'd also like to say CDProjekt cares about their fanbase

Witcher 1 was horribly designed. Period. The Enhanced Edition did nothing to fix a vast array of terrible design issues: bland characterisation, the fact the Geralt is always a douchebag no matter how you play him (not to mention suffering from the writer's crutch, aka amnesia), appalling pacing, tedious combat, writing that leaves the player confused due to poor writing rather than deliberate choice, consequences being shoved down your throat in a fourth-wall breaking method... ehh, I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

I understand that a lot of people love this game, but I for the life of me cannot enjoy it. And I tried. I tried really, really hard. Even watching a let's play of the game by a funny narrator who actually enjoys the game cannot make me want to go back to it. Should someone ever gift me a copy of The Witcher 2 on Steam, I might give it a shot, but I cannot in good conscience spend my money on that game after being so terribly disappointed with the original. I can even respect CDProjekt Red for some of the stuff they've done (e.g. gog), but they've had their fair share of mudslinging to undermine that respect too.

Skyrim is also a great game, but storytelling is not its forte. The game typically builds up encounters or quest lines which end in a disappointing fizzle, mainly because Bethesda just doesn't know how to manage boss fights. There were some fun little quests, for sure, but on the whole, most of the stories are fairly weak and not very memorable. Don't get me wrong, I love Skyrim, and I'd say it was easily the best game released last year, but writing is not its strength. It is making a world where the player tells their own stories through their interactions.

Recent BioWare games - well, since you said "games" then I assume you're referring to Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2. Dragon Age 2 also suffers from some appalling design flaws - it's disjointed and shoe-horns the player into a pre-determined outcome with some awful railroading, and doesn't manage to merge the three acts together into a cohesive single narrative. That said, it had some awesome characters. Mass Effect 2 also had great characters, and presented itself more like a series of related short stories and character vignettes with some great pieces to bring Shepard to the fore. I can sure as hell say I enjoyed both of them a ton more than The Witcher.

None of these games needed a multiplayer component shoved uncomfortably into the mix. Now I'm not saying that Mass Effect 3's multiplayer isn't going to be fun, but Mass Effect 3 is supposed to be the climax of the trilogy of this generation of consoles (yes, I play games on PC and console!) and of the past few years. Expectations are (rightfully) high. Gamers have come along for this ride. They don't expect to be stung for Day 1 DLC. I know it doesn't affect me because I preordered my CE, but hell, I'm annoyed for all those people that didn't. I don't like paid Day 1 DLC. It just doesn't engender any goodwill from the gamers, which is a lost opportunity. Treat your customers right, they'll come back and buy from you.  Mistreat them... and you'll end up with Ubisoft DRM - and people obtaining games illegitimately so they can play them when the paying customers can't because the servers are offline/being relocated.
