I'm giving up on the MP demo for now. I've had such a poor experience that I don't know if I'll even bother with it on the full game. When it actually works, it's incredibly fun and very rewarding. But it works so rarely that I just do not have the patience to be punished for playing the rest of the time.

Bioware, why didn't you guys call this a "Beta Test" if that's what it is?

If a full game was even half this bad, I would demand a refund and never buy anything from the company again.

I've been playing through as a Human Female Vanguard.

In-Game Glitches
  • Sometimes I'll fall through the level or float into the sky. I've fallen through both levels, but I've only floated into the sky in Firebase Frost. Strangely, I can still be hit and kill foes with Shockwave and Nova when this happens.
  • On Firebase Frost, I try to roll off the ledges because it's faster than going down the ladder and inevitably being shot to death, but occasionally I'll land funny and it will cause the above glitch.
  • Sometimes my cooldown will be finished, I'll be in clear view of an enemy, I'll target them and hit "Y" to do a Biotic Charge, and nothing will happen.
  • Sometimes I'll Biotic Charge a Phantom, then Nova, then Heavy Melee while their stagger animation is still finishing. When I start the Heavy Melee, the Phantom disappears (not fading into invisibility, but just suddenly not being there as if glitching away) and then I'll be one-hit killed.
  • Sometimes when I get killed by a Phantom, I bleed to death instantly with no opportunity to be revived.
  • Sometimes I'll hit "A" to revive someone, and my character will just stand there, doing nothing at all.

The glitches are an extra-big problem because the Equipment Bonuses only last for 1 mission. So if I glitch out, or someone drops, or if the glitches result in us getting murdered, then I have wasted all of my hard-won Equipment Bonuses and any consumable supplies I might have used.

Matchmaking Glitches
  • I have never seen a lobby where someone left or was kicked and the slot got re-filled. Every time I join a lobby with an empty slot, I just exit and start over.
  • I have never seen a game where a player left and their slot was subsequently re-filled. If I start a mission with 4 people, and one person leaves, that means we're finishing with 3 people.
  • Very often, I will get the message "Your connection to the game was lost" when I'm doing a Quickplay search. This will kick me back to the main screen. I have two questions: 1.) What game? I hadn't connected to a game yet, so what did I lose connection to? And 2.) Why doesn't it just automatically keep searching in this situation? Why do I have to manually re-start the search again, if that's obviously what I would want to do?

Usability Issues
  • The game gives no way of indicating when it's realistic to try Silver or Gold challenges. Doing Silver without 4 skilled players and characters of level 10+ isn't fun, it's just a frustrating massacre.
  • There is no way to restrict matchmaking by levels. It should simply be impossible to join a non-Bronze challenge when your character is Level 1, period. Maybe you can turn that off in the options somewhere, if you want the challenge, but by default it should be impossible.
  • I should be able to reconfigure my controls. It's crazy that Biotic Charge is "Y", because it means I have to aim with my right thumb, then move it from the thumbstick to the "Y" button. If I wasn't aimed exactly right, then I have to do it all over again. Totally ridiculous!
  • "Revive" needs its own button. I have been killed so many times because I stood there getting in and out of cover while trying to revive an ally.

I am a developer and I know how hard it is to ship solid code on tight deadlines, but this experience felt really half-assed, guys. If I saw these kind of problems during playtesting, I would scream bloody murder before letting it go to real users. I really hope this stuff gets fixed before the game comes out, because I'd love to have the golden experience hidden under the mountain of problems currently plaguing the MP demo on the 360.

Blablabla.

Its a demo, get over it. If you are a dev you would know about a month or two old builds that get used for the demo.

@JuiceIsJuice - The kind of jank I am experiencing in this demo seems like it would require a lot more than one or two months of fixes.

Honestly, I would have nothing to say if this was billed as a beta test. They didn't do it that way, though... they billed it as a demo. Maybe my expectations really are too high, but I feel that a demo, being short for "demonstration", should be used to demonstrate what a great product you have, to get people excited for it. This had the exact opposite effect for me.

I like to repeat it because it solves a number of problems: You got open NAT settings? Otherwise you'll bump in all kinds of problems because the game is peer-2-peer based. See also here.

Different game, same premise. So if other people are dropping from games, it is mostly because they did not open up any ports, connections can't be established, they get kicked. Or it will be hell of a laggy experience.
It also causes lobbies to remain empty.

I set my NAT type to "open" and have people join me just fine... however, only after quick-searching and getting assigned as "Leader" from the game. The basic "create match" function does not seem to do anything just yet. Silly, I know.

The phantom instantly killing isn't a glitch you are meant to also die when it does that special move on you.

Phantoms and Atlas Mechs can Insta-Kill you. The Phantom uses both her "Swords" to do this with a special animation and the Atlas grabs you with his left arm and squishes you to death.

Holy crap, what kind of language is that? All of the above are valid complaints, and you have no way of knowing how old the demo is. I'm sure BioWare is pretty stressed about the issues, but they ARE annoying, and we all have a right to share our concerns, especially on a technical support forum.
