Well I am glad they keep me in when the telephone rings or my wife or baby cries for some moments attention... ;) A kick button would be good nonetheless.

Maybe you should ask bioware for a quit match button.......oh yea we have that.

Yeah because everyone loves gettign to wave 9 or even 10 after the mission on silver or gold, just to leave and loose EVERYTHING, when they have to leave the computer screen for 2-3 minutes. If its in the first 3 or 5 rounds or you know your not going to be back in any amount of reasonable time, yeah, forsure you shouldnt just afk. but ive been in gold matches bordering on the hour mark (it was pretty much an infiltrator and me doing all the work while the others died) and it sucks to loose everything after putting that much time into something.

That's not what we're talking about. We're talking abut people who ready up in the lobby, and then find a spot to hide in game and just afk.

Some people do it on lower difficulties, then pop in during the evac so they can still get all the points. :/

I had a match where one of the guys ANNOUNCED he was going AFK. "You guys have this; I'm going to get something to eat." He parked himself in a corner and wasn't around to help when we got swarmed and lost the match a few waves later.

Yeah, the only time id do that is like, **** guys, hold on i gotta pee real quick, and pop back in as little time as possible.(or any other ligit short reason). And i try to time it right near the end of a round, so its just the cleanup, break and start again.

And as to polite, i do relize that that is waht you're talking about, I was just replying and saying that, people should still be allowed to afk,  for short things, but yeah, people who are gone for like, any long amount of time, like in that screenie where the guy didnt have any poitns what so ever is really annoying. Thankfully, I've only ran into that maybe once on my own.

Seriously. When you want the shooter crowd, I guess you have to end up putting up with the immature portion as well.i keep getting into matches, silver mind you, where people just afk the whole time. Either have a system where we can boot mid match, or do like bungie does and credit/xp ban afkers. This is ridiculous and childish.

Definitely.

On a side note, while you can kick someone in the lobby, it is very annoying when its the host, because most people end up leaving during a host migration, so some kind of time limit or auto-start would be nice there as well.

Yes I can agree to this. Having to leave for a minute or two for something is one thing, and I'm sure we're almost all guilty of it, but readying up for a match and then hiding in a spot to afk for the whole match is ridiculous. It will literally ruin playing on silver and gold, which has happened to me before. We never won when it happened, but luckily two of my best classes are lvl 20 and we can make it far. I just hate the idea of them getting xp and credits my team and I worked for. It's not fair.

I would support a sort of credit jackpot system, similar to Halo: Reach. If a team member is caught not acting for too long a time, or leaves mid game, they lose a potentially large amount of rewards.

However, an in game kick button would be abused to no end. This opens up the possibility for griefers to kick randoms at the last moment and invite their friends, who would then get credit despite not helping, and leave the random with nothing. A kick function operates largely on the honor system, and honor is not a given in multiplayer gaming.

You might want to change your thread title to Leechers in multiplayer. Going AFK is one thing, but a leecher is a specific name for any person who abuses a cooperative game's sharing system to gain rewards even though they don't contribute. They are a plague in any game like this.

Mid game kicks are just asking for abuse. I think they should simply multiply the length of time a character is dead by the total XP/cash gained.

Hence, if an AFK player is dead for 95% of the match, then their total XP/Cash award is only 5% of what they could have achieved.

I have only run into a couple games where someone obviously was just "parking" their character there.

I got all but one class up to LvL 20 now. Not bragging. Just means a lot of hours.

I have only encountered one AFKer on PC.

Still, an auto-kick for inactivity would seem fair enough.

It's a tricky call to have something like this. Especially considering the amount of time that goes into each match, it would cause some otherwise well-meaning players to lose their accomplishments over something that came up in the real world.

I haven't seen too many purposefully annoying AFKers myself, so I think it might be better to just let the issue slide. It grates on all of us when it happens, but it's better than the alternative of punishing respectable people for uncontrollable situations.

I would say that setting a kick timer, and then setting the amount of time AFK required to be kicked to something high, but that would also be abused. Then, the leecher could just jiggle their mouse in-game every few minutes, and escape getting kicked.

Sorry to say it, but the determined griefer will accomplish their goal no matter what.

What is 'AFK'? [/dumb question]

It means Away From Keyboard.

And while being able to kick someone mid-game might be useful sometimes, many will kick others simply because they "stole their kills" or such bull****.

Yeah a votekick would get abused. People already kick in lobbies for classes they hate being used in Gold. Just a simple afk auto kicker would be fine.

o.
- another game, in the middle of a wave my attacks stopped registering. Neither powers nor weapons did any damage. I could not even reload or switch weapons. This lasted at least two full waves. Obviously I wasn't very useful. Considered leaving, but it was at the end, the other 3 had no trouble, and in the the middle of wave 10 I could suddenly start dealing out some damage again.
.

Yep, that bug happened to me too. Luckily I was some friends, so they didn't make a fuss about it, also, I was an excellent scout (as damage to me didn't register either. Hee-hee)

Two events come to mind
- one time I was put into a game (quick match), but not completely. I could not move at all, for several waves. (Basically I stood there like an idiot for a long while, but through no fault of my own). Eventually the game stopped "communicating" and "loading", and I could complete the mission as part of a duo.

Not saying you didn't encounter genuine AFKing a**holes.

OP make it sound like ME3 demo multiplayer is full of this behaviour. That would be news to me; I have not seen it at all on PC.

The first thing you mention happened to me too once. However, I could still move my gun, even though everything else didn't work. The guy we had just stood there, frozen, for six (!!!) waves. Even if I can't move anything at all and can not communicate with the others telling them I glitched out, it SHOULD be "common" sense to come to the conclusion that: "Damn, I'm of no use, going to quit!" instead of just uselessly staying there. It was on Gold, an empty spot in the team is better than one occupied by a useless character for obvious reasons.

you can fix the first bug by sliding into cover, it's happened to me on both maps and it works for both of them.
