When I first played the multiplayer portion of the game, it was on the day of the early multiplayer unlock, so most people were in their lower levels (except for that one guy who was lvl 80 on the leaderboards after only 3 to 5 hours after the demo was released).  I opened that pack you get when you first play, and I received a Krogan soldier with 50,000(?) class xp.  I was pretty excited, considering that I've always wanted to play as a krogan, and soldier class just happens to be the class I use in single player.  

So anyway, the xp that came wih the character unlock started me off at lvl.3.  I entered a match with some random players, who had been probably playing the mp part of the demo while I was playing the single player because they were already around lvls.5, 8, and 10.  I don't recall the difficulty since I didn't know where to look for it at the time, but I'm guessing it might have been silver.  

In the previous mass effect games, I remembered how the krogans would always charge the player, so I assumed that's how it was going to be playing as that character.  The match started (Firebase ghost), and I rushed in with my assault rifle thinking I'd be able to take on all the computers.

I fell a few seconds after the first wave started.

Then fell someone trying to save me, then another who was trying to find a safe corner, then the last.  Wave one, and I haven't even fired a single shot.  The entire team left soon after that.

An embarrassing moment for a mass effect fan, but I quickly learned from it, and had a ton of fun since then.

What was your first mass effect multiplayer experience like, and what class did you play as?

Human adept. Unlocked the Mattock in my Starter Pack. Tried to play with it. Failed terribly.

I began with Human Soldier as it took me a week to unlock my first alien race which was a Turian Sentinel and I finally unlocked a race I was very exited to play as a few days ago; Quarian

I went for Gold, started with two of my friends on Gold, all three of us as Level 1's. The round ended ten seconds later, I'm fairly sure one Centurion killed us all.

Human soldier, since I thought, it's ME multiplayer and soldier is the obvious starter class in all the ME games because it's simple.
Got thrown into a silver ranked game and died on wave 4. Bad times.

Learned: Soldier is crap unless you have awesome weapons or a krogan.

I think quarian was my second unlock.  You have no idea how happy I was

Started as a human engineer. I think I got dumped into a Silver match first thing. Needless to say, I died about 20 seconds in. Grenades all over the place.

Human Vanguard equipped with the Scimitar that I got in the starter pack. I went down a few times, but I think I eventually got the hang of it that first match. We lost, but it was a learning experience. Nothing that really stood out though. Bronze just seemed really hard at the time, even though it's laughable now.

Indeed!  I was trying to find a gold match, but the lvl 4 leader change the difficulty to bronze while I was talking to my buddy, and I hadn't played bronze in a while, so it seemed so much easier!

My first match was by myself, before jumping online. I was quickly outflanked in every direction, killed in wave 1, and just thought, WTF? these guys are INTENSE! I loved it lol...I enjoy games with extreme challenge.

Mine was a Human Infiltrator, I actually chose the perfect character for me Online as during SP I usually go for Adept. I was lvl 2 and everyone was 7 -15. I made several kills and took down an Atlas, we made it to 9 before a phantom killed me and several others. It went down to one player (I don't know what class he was as he was just using a pistol and no abilities) he was killed by one trooper which he played hide and seek with for 5 minutes, I was pissed.

Same here (loving a challenge part)!  I heard some people actually have solo'd and beat gold as a vanguard.  I've only beat it 4 times with groups of lvls.16 and above.

Calmed down, came back with an infiltrator, haven't looked back since.
