 Hi, I just downloaded Arrival because I heard it segways into ME3.

I installed it and went into my ME2 game which is in the middle finishing things up before getting the Reaper IFF, and I got paged by hackett.

Just wondering, isn't arrival supposed to take place after the suicide mission? Should I do it before or after?

Thanks in advance!

It's up to you, but what I recommend is making a save point and then trying Arrival out before and after the Reaper IFF and the SM.

You are in a perfect spot to try it, so that you can see how the dialogue is different. And there are a few sequences that I liked a lot in the DLC that's worth trying that out, IMHO.

There's no "canon" way to do it as far as I know. There's one thing to consider though...

* SMALL SPOILER AHEAD *

Without spoiling too much of Arrival, I can say that Hackett does (at some point in a conversation with Shepard, I'm not telling when exactly) wonders if the Normandy is a Cerberus ship anymore.

Now, I'm saying this because in one of my specific game that I am referring to I happened to destroy the Collector's base (I have another more recent game in which I kept the base but haven't finished Arrival in that game yet). I finished Arrival AFTER destroying the Collector's base in that game. Basically, if Shepard destroys the base then it basically means that Shepard "quits" Cerberus (and of course Shepard has the whole crew and his team following him/her, if he quits Cerberus, they also pretty much follow him, although that remains to be seen in ME3, as to whom within the crew or the team would actually quit following Shepard in favor of "going back" to Cerberus). Especially confirmed if Miranda is present when the Illusive Man contacts Shepard at the last minute to ask him/her to preserve the Collector's base near the end of the Suicide Mission. That's when Miranda basically tells the Illusive Man to consider her refusal to convince Shepard to keep the base as an official resignation from Cerberus (if Shepard wants to destroy it, at which points the Illusive Man directly asks Miranda to convince Shepard to keep it). After the last cut-scenes are over and you're back in the Normandy (if continuing the game after the credits) then you can go speak to your party members. If Jacob survived and you go speak to him then he says that destroying the base was a sure way to confirm that you just quit Cerberus.

Now, that implies the following...

If you destroy the base, you basically quit Cerberus and the Illusive Man is really pissed off. If you complete the Arrival DLC after destroying the base then it DOES "connect" with the known events of ME3 much better than if you do the DLC before destroying the base (if the choice is indeed to destroy it in the first place). Why? Well, exactly because of what Hackett says, he wonders if the ship is Cerberus anymore (I.E. if anyone in the ship including Shepard actually works "for" Cerberus anymore), and most of the crew... or at least Miranda and Shepard have basically quit Cerberus by refusing to keep the base and turning their backs at the Illusive Man. So, all of that considered it would explain why the Alliance in ME3 basically takes "possession" of the Normandy SR-2 and refits it for the Alliance's purposes, while Cerberus seems to chase Shepard around in retaliation of sorts for destroying the Collector's base.

So... ermm... where was I... ah yeah, so if you basically finish the DLC after destroying the base then if anything you might indeed consider that "more canon" than anything else. Although I'm NOT saying that it IS technically "absolute canon" from the writer(s)'s or from BioWare's point of view. It MIGHT be the case but I'm not sure myself. As a side note, I don't know if Hackett has the same dialog if you actually KEEP the base and finish the DLC after keeping it. I don't know if under such circumstances he does wonder if the ship is a Cerberus ship anymore. If he DOES keep the same dialog then perhaps that would mean that indeed destroying the Collector's base, quitting Cerberus and then doing the DLC is pretty much what BioWare and/or the writer(s) themselves consider canon, if anything.

Phew... ok, hope it was clear and if so, hope it helps!

Cool, looks like I'll be doing it after the suicide mission, thanks so much!
