Given that:
  • Multiplayer is EXTREMELY unstable at high ping,
  • A player must host, and the players can be anywhere around the world,
  • Rounds regularly last 20-30 minutes,
  • Leaving in the middle of a game hurts your co-op partners, and
  • Leaving in the middle of the game denies you AND your partners XP
It's only common sense that you let us see what everyone's ping is in the lobby, so that we know ahead of time if we're going to lag, so we can save everyone a lot of time by leaving and finding a new game.

I agree. and I also wonder how hard is it a thing to implement.

agreed you would think this and text chat would be the first things they would implement into multiplayer for PC gamers since its literally needed for everyone to have an enjoyable time when joining a server

Why wasn't this implemented right from the start? (both latency display and text chat)

ME3 multiplayer - sux. Even if i ove the host, i couldn't actually manage it, if i wanna to exclude two noobs for example, i need to get other people to vote.. another way to exclude them, isnt included in UI, and may be restricted by biowarea.
Wanna something like cs.. but of course, who will listen me or somebody in this forum..)

I've actually started checking everyone's profiles on XBL after joining a lobby, just to see where they are from. The majority of people I've played with who are outside the US or Europe seemed to have the worst connections unfortunately, so I tend to leave the lobby if they're the host/leader.

Having a ping indicator would be very useful in the lobby, since you could see right away how well the connections are. Even something as simple as little 'signal bars' like those on a cell phone would be enough.

i tried to make a petition about this yesterday. i think that if all we ask for is just the host's location (i'm not sure how specific you need, country or city) displayed in the lobby, then there is a chance they might patch it in at some point. automatic filtering or a latency meter probably aren't going to happen.

either people didn't know what "latency" means or they don't care, though, because i only got about 20 bumps even though i kept rebumping myself to keep it visible.

i would rather see the hosts's location, to judge the ping for myself, than have any other game bug fixed. does anyone have an idea for how to get a working petition started? i think the forum pages shuffle too quickly for it to be effective here.

Definitely needs a latency/location indicator.
In other co-op games I can deal with ~200 ping, but not this game.
The net code is absolutely horrible. Whenever you have high ping you start rubberbanding everywhere. The rubberbanding in ME3 is actually innovative, because even if you dont move, you will teleport back and forth. The only way to make your character stand still is sticking to cover. Projectile weapons and vanguards are also bugged in high ping circumstances.

As a sort of poor-mans-ping-check, when you join a game try to vote kick someone and take note of how long it takes the X to appear. It can give you an indication on how the hosts connection is doing. That said a legitimate ping indicator would be very welcome. I'd also like to see dedicated servers instead of this match making BS so I don't join games in Siberia..but eh...

I had my very first laggy match yesterday. Mostly I just host myself.
I lagged all over the map and a krogan was stuck in midair. I dont know where the game was hosted but I would support a ping info in the lobby as well!

Good sign to tell if you will have ok ping is to look on the timer in the lobby when you see the countdown for start. So if it skips 2 seconds like 18..16.15...13 then it will lag. But im not sure if this is accurate everytime.

Yep. BioWare totally gonna implement the thing after this thread. Because no one asked of this before. Sure.

I find the lag on the ME3 servers is a lot worse than other games I play on XBL. There's not really an excuse for this, and the reason I host quite alot. I live in the UK though, and sometimes think this affects other players who join in the US for example. Not fair either way :(
