Phantoms are indeed overpowered. Mobs should never ever be given abilities that instant KO players. Nor should mobs designed to be melee mobs be given incredibly strong ranged damage.

The other units are a wee bit underpowered.

Bioware needs to break apart the Phantom monolpoly on interesting powers and hand them out to the other npcs that are really hurting for some loving.

I think they already started doing this by giving stealth to turrets.

Phantoms are the only dangerous thing about Cerberus. If you weaken them, Cerberus becomes too easy to beat.

Why is that?  If you see someone running at you with a sword, you wouldn't back off a bit or try to get out of their range?  It gives the combat a new twist and makes it more fun IMO.

lol I hate the phantoms but ive just started playing as a Vanguard, Charge and Nova does pretty well against them

I solo them as a soldier. Weapon Ammo helps, Also Grenades and concussive shot (which staggers them for me when ti does hit). I always move about, keeping my distance (obviously moving from cover to cover) Keep in mind where your ammo sites are, they help. I sometimes 1st shoot a concussive and throw a grenade where I think they will land. A grenade or two really ruins their day. If they stagger from either the grenade or concussive then they will find a few Mattock slugs in their head.
Like many say before, they are very challenging and 203 can really make things interesting but they are alot of fun. I personally seek them out when I hear there is one in the game...someone has to be the bait...

Krogan should be able to take the shield/sword from Guardians/Phantoms and beat them to death with it.

What me and my group have found in our romps through gold, is that stasis bubble is absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. I've become our designated Phantom killer on my Asari adept, they call out phantoms, I show up, stasis, we kill it, and I move onto the next phantom.

Playing as a Krogan Soldier, I can usually end them with a heavy melee, or heavy melee+headshot with my m-99 sabre. They are fun to fight, they should stay the way they are.

I solo two of these things, simultenously, with my Vanguard.  On Gold Difficulty.  If they get nerfed, they might as well be on wave 1.

It's easy, they're ninja.

And I started fearing them over Banshees. Good old banshee? Laughable, combared to a phantom.

Wrong:

Charge->Heavy Melee->Nova->Use the shotgun to mop up the last tiny bits of life she has. Works everytime. Charge staggers her enough to get a heavy melee attack through without problems, heavy melee staggers her in most cases too. If you have barriers left, use Nova, by then her barriers will be gone and she flying helplessly around. If you DON'T have shields left because she was in a grooup of enemies, then use charge again it's more or less the same result. On Gold, all that's left of her after that is one or two bars of health, one or two shotgun blast will take her out permanentely.

Every time I see vanguards trying to melee  instead of nova'ing banshee's they end up spectating.

Phantoms are the Banshees of Cerberus, just like Atlases are its equivalent of Brutes: Tough as hell, erratically-moving, both close- and long-ranged attacks, possibility of insta-kill. Yeah, they can go invisible, but at least you can actually reave them for health, unlike a Banshee, and Phantoms are much more likely to lie in wait awhile and give you time to hit them with attacks around corners.

Biggest problem isnt a phantom or two, its when youv got six phantoms on a map like reactor and there plucking away at people with those stupid ranged attacks while flipping around behind corners constantly. And then theres the fact that they will instantly start scampering over to you if you use medigel to get up off the floor, given how long it takes to get up they shouldnt do this untill you actually have control of your character.

The main issue I have with phantoms is that sometimes they bug out and can't be stasised, no matter what you do. This alone can potentially completely **** up a gold run. Also sometimes they appear to die on what would be a finishing shot but in fact don't die and fall down face first into the ground and fire their handcannon at you from inside the ground, whilst being unkillable by conventional methods. (Need a rocket to kill them in this state) Those 2 are by far the most OP factors to do with Phantoms, which need changing.

I would just like for getting shooting their swords out of their hands to be made WAY easier. Currently it's much harder to do than just getting a headshot...and a headshot will kill them. Shooting their sword away won't.
