Maybe I just missed a news post somewhere but.....my last playthrough of Mass Effect was back in 2010 when ME2 came out and I was doing 1 to 2 runs to create save chains for different styles of characters for fun.
With ME3 coming in soon I decided to do one last full ME1 - ME2 run to reconnect completely with the story before it releases.
And as I was playing through Mass Effect, I started noticing something. The texture quality on the Citadel and lighting systems seemed far more high quality than I remembered it, even some of the cinematic scenes seemed recertified for HD systems.
Was Mass Effect given a bit of an overhaul at some point in the last couple years to try to get it at least somewhat graphically comparable to ME2/ME3?
And its really not so much a difference in my hardware today as compared to when I first played Mass Effect, the clearest example I can really pull out of my ass here is that the wall textures on the Citadel did not have a normal map, which allowed the surface to "reflect" lighting in real time. On this last play through every texture in the Citadel had normals and real time lighting effects were noticable on everything.
Even the water on the Citadel seemed far higher quality than I remember it from earlier play throughs.
To be honest I spent most of the play through going, this doesn't even look like the same game as I remember it. Granted there were still bits and pieces out in the galaxy that had not seen the same improvements, Feros for example, seemed to still have the same low resolution texture base its always had with no special adaptations or changes. So it doesn't look like a complete overhaul, but the game definitely looked a lot prettier than I remember it to be.
Even Jenkins didn't look like a dough face yokel in the beginning conversation scenes. I was quite confused.
