I just heard about the outrageous day one DLC. The DLC that has critical plot points. No more is EA (and other gaming companies) trying to incentivize new game sales but punish everyone. You don't make critical plot points DLC. It's egregious!
I love Mass Effect! I love Mass Effect so much I got married in my N7 jacket. So this isn't a simple thing for me to do.
I will not buy Mass Effect 3 because of this day one rip off.

People have been raging about this for days.
Bioware released a press review about the day one DLC that was originaly slated for collecters edition only release.
If you are that huge of a fan then why didnt you get a C.E. copy of your own?

The reason I'm not getting the collectors edition is I live in Japan. Getting games from the states isn't hard but can be tricky if it's special/limited/collector editions. They sell out extremely fast. The odds that I will be able to get one isn't good.

"It takes about 3 months from "content complete" to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs. In that time we work on DLC.
"DLC has fast cert and no mfg., so if a team works very hard, they can get a DLC done in time to enjoy it with your 1st playthrough on day 1.
"On #ME3, content creators completed the game in January & moved onto the "From Ashes" DLC, free w/ the CE or you can buy seperately."
It's a nice reminder to some folks that games aren't finished the night before they arrive on shelves; there are often months between when a game is essentially done and when it can be sold. If a team can roll right into work on DLC, it certainly makes sense.

Nothing more to say.

You are focusing on bioware not being able to finish the game. It sounds like we should pay for them being late.

I just read in another topic about how the prothean may be included in the game, but not as a squadmate, and that the DLC will make him available as a squadmate. Not saying this is true but it could be a possibility
We'll see how it plays out.

day 1 dlc means it's available from release of the game. Some people have a problem with that, in their opinion it's a move to rip people off.Paul Rodney wrote...
why does every1 keep calling it day 1 dlc? is it only available for 1 day so confusing
And i agree, i'm paying 90€ for the CE, that's 120$, thankfully it has the dlc in it, but I know that the price is so high due to having the dlc in it. Would have not cost as much if i got the normal game and bought the dlc seperately.
All else in the package is sh*t:
A limited edition copy of Mass Effect: Invasion with unique cover art. (if it's anything like the one in ME2, it'll suck HARD, and sicne it's one issue, i guess we have to buy 3 others for the full set)
A premium N7 fabric patch.(i could make one myself, but okay)
Exclusive 4x6 lithographic print featuring a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork of the SR-2 Alliance Normandy.(okay, but not worth the money, my game retailer gives me big posters and etc for free)
A number of "free" Downloadable Content packs:N7 Arsenal Pack: Contains the N7 Valiant Sniper Rifle, N7 Crusader Shotgun, N7 Hurricane SMG, and N7 Eagle Pistol.(okay)
A Robotic Dog: A faithful sidekick to keep you company on board the Normandy.(what?why?)
Squadmate Alternate Outfit Pack: New outfits for Ashley, Kaidan, James Vega, and Liara T'Soni.(meh)
N7 Hoodie: Outfit item for Shepard while onboard the Normandy.(okay)
From Ashes: An additional downloadable mission and character.(the big one, worth no more than 10 bucks)
Free digital soundtrack.(cool, but this cost them les then a buck, none production wise)
An Xbox LIVE Normandy prop for your Avatar. (Xbox 360 Only)
[/b]
A collection of forum and social badges, avatars, and perks.(who cares?)
A premium metal case featuring commemorative artwork of both male and female versions of Commander Shepard.(nice)
Instead of all that putrid feces they could have gone with a season pass, giving you acces to all future dlc, who the **** needs a mechanical dog?? For the addition 35€, thats 45$, i get a 10$ worth dlc. the other 35$ is for the good assf*cking they gave me i guess, well mostly my wallet:devil:

It shouldn't be paid DLC if it's critical to the story. DLC expands the story once the main story has ended. Or a new character, new weapons, side missions, side story line. Not critical plot points.
I wasn't sure where to put this. So it feel here.

Some people just don't get it and its because they don't want to get it. They are fanboys who think Bioware and EA could do no wrong. If this DLC was like Zaed or Kasumi it would be perfectly fine with me. I am not against DLC I think its awesome when months after I am done with a game I get a new reason to play it again. But this perticular DLC is way too important to the plot and any real ME fan is going to want this DLC and feel like they NEED it to truly get a full experience. Bioware knows exactly what they are doing and that makes it worse.
You have the "its business" people who seem to ask Bioware to steal their money. Sure it would also be good for their business if they could get us to pay $100 a day everyday while me play ME3...but would it be right? No. I would say there is a line you don't cross and Bioware has crossed it or gotten really close to crossing it. But gamers keep on picking up that line, moving it further and further and saying HEY ITS OKAY...RIP ME OFF I LIKE IT!! I will defend you coming up with unethical ways to get me to pay more money for a product I already paid for!!!.
Just a couple years ago DLC was pretty much non existent and not every game HAD it. I now ask myself when does it actually become ridiculous? When is it clear its a blatant ripoff and that the companies doing it are wrong. I am blown away at how the current set of gamers keeps willingly getting ripped off and not demanding it stop...but actually DEMANDING it get worse. You will someday soon have games literally sold in PARTS...yes...ME3 part 1....ME3 part 2...and you will have fools gladly paying more and acting like its okay.

You are working under the impression that you NEED this DLC in order to complet the game in any sort of fashion. The From Ashes DLC is mostly fan-service, just with out the cheesecake. It fills in some lore, gives you a weapon or two from what ive been hearing, lets you go to a planet from Mass Effect 1 [either eden prime or virmier, not sure] and an extra squad member.
Stolen Memories did the same thing
The Arrival let you play out an event from after ME2 ended and well before ME3 begins which they will explain in ME3, what you did/do in that dlc has no effect on the end result and the events that follow.
Having the Prothean wont make one lick of difference to the various endings of the core ME3 game and that has been the most common misconception I have seen from people who are complaining about it. That NOT having this DLC will keep you from beating the game in a meaning full way.
It is just one prothean
Just one.
No hidden prothean world, or worlds, with a hidden secret fleet that will tip the scales in your favor for the best ending, just one prothean. Once he dies, no more protheans again.
As for the ME2 DLC characters in ME3, they have said that if those squad mates live, you MIGHT see them again in ME3. If you dont have the DLC characters you wont suddenly see them and hold long conversations about what happened in their DLC's. Neither of those two characters were critical to beating ME2 either.
From Ashes is just going to add another NPC, a few toys and some lore.
That's it.
Nothing more.
No super win button.
Just some stuff people will be/are chomping at the bit to learn and see.
<_<
By the way, I learned about all this just by tripping over it, so many people are screaming about it that I couldn't avoid it so I did a little research. Something to be said about game review sites, bioware press releases and good ol' Google.
Much more of this and I'm not going to need to play the game to know how to beat it.....

Agreed.
I just wish that people who decide that they are not going to buy something would just decide to not buy it and go about their way, not make whiny posts about why they are not buying it that show they havent actually looked at the event that made them decide.

Yeah seriously if your that fragile where DLC is released you go threw convulsions, fits, and typing massive posts about how you are going to boycott it that's terribly sad. One prothean won't win a war but it will make unique dialog options and a weapon and some skins. I hope you guys get over yourselfs soon

These, "I'm not buying your game" posts are said. Go to CBR. People say that all thr time. "If Marvel has another event, I'm not buying." Yet Marvel keeps making money off of events. No one believes you. At least when you make a thread about it. I said on a threas I'd quit buying USM if Bendis killed Parker. I did. Why? Not to "boycott". Just didn't care about Peter's replacement. But the people that are the loudest always want attention. This thread screams, "Casey Hudson! Come talk to me!"

I'm not talking about buying the game used here! Buying it new should be enough! DLC is extra. It can NOT be apart of the main story and I don't care that I can finish the game without it. No wait actually I won't be able to finish the game! I need this part of the story and if you have bought the CE you feel the same. It means you should understand it's importance. This isn't just a simple piece of information!
"don't like it don't buy it" is damn right! I don't like it! I bloody hate what they did! Things from this point on will get worse. It will continue to escalate because companies care only about money. As they should. It's the prime reason they are doing anything. But to stay in business they can't constantly try to screw your customers unchecked. Just like you don't care if I buy it or not (as I said in my first sentence) I don't care what you do with your money. This isn't a call to boycott. I am stating that I won't have it! EA wants to steal from foolish/rich customers and succeed then good for them. I will wait a year untill the game drops in price dramatically. Im patient. I'll buy it used for 20 bucks and ill then download the dlc all for 30.
But I won't sail the high seas for it.
