My game has suddenly started to crash randomly. I don't know what triggers it. It seems to be totally random. It's done it on the Normandy, on planets, during cutscenes, and even in the main menu. I haven't played ME2 in months, just started replaying it to be refreshed on Mass Effect. I had it on Steam. I uninstalled it from Steam and Origin, then reinstalled both. I'm playing the Origin version at the moment on a fresh install. All my drivers are up to date (just made sure a few hours ago).

Do you have the ME3 demo?? Some say it causes issue with ME2....which is incredibly stupid if you ask me.
Also random crashing can be from a huge list of items, so the order of likely hood is program conflict, and then hardware failure. Examples below.
Program conflict....
Driver changes on all hardware such as updated video, audio, and mainboard.
Changes in Antivirus.
Changes in any background program, such as netdefenders, DVD drive optimizers, software firewalls, aftermarket screen savers, etc
Hardware failure....
GPU overheat/failing.
CPU overheat/failing.
Powersupply failing.
So the next step is to figure out what changed between then and now and fix it. Look at all your programs that changed since last play, and put a temp program on to monitor the temps of your hardware. Also make sure you are running the game in XP compatibility mode.

I do have the Mass Effect 3 demo downloaded. I'll see if that fixes the problem.
It could be another program conflict or driver change.
I know my GPU, CPU, and PSU, as well as harddrive aren't failing or overheating. I don't have these problems elsewhere on my computer. (Though I do get periodical bluescreens, these bluescreens have not effected video games, nor has this happened before with Mass Effect.) Such as, I play Skyrim, and it doesn't randomly crash like this (and come on, Elder Scrolls is KNOWN for crashing). I did add Spybot into my routine. That's the only antivirus software I've added. I have now, and before, used Mircorsoft Security Essentials. Everything else aside from Steam, Spybot, Origin, and MSE is not running in the background.
Edit: I'll use Revo Uninstaller to make sure I get everything Mass Effect 3 off my system and come back.

Did you check the crash logs to see what the error that caused the crashes was? Might give you a clue as to what the issue is either program error or hardware issue. If you are getting Blue Screens fairly often it may be that you have some buggy drivers somewhere on your system that are causing crashes. But without checking the logs its hard to know which drivers that might be.

Thought it might have been fixed after uninstalling Mass Effect 3 Demo. However, it just did it.

Okay try this open a command prompt (cmd.exe) right click it and run as admin
Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff and press enter
and then reboot and see if this fixes the crashes.
If that does not work you'll want to reverse this by doing the same thing but type in
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn and press enter and then reboot to reverse it.

I tried that. It returned:
The boot configuration data store could not be opened.
Access is denied.

You need to make sure you have admin rights or it will not work.

Well, I closed Spybot before playing the game (as that is something new that I started using since I picked up ME2 again), and so far I haven't had any random crashes. I'll come back if it happens again.

Didn't work. I ran cmd.exe as an administrator. It was successful this time. Hopefully it works.

So with Mass Effect 3 out I thought I should replay a bit of Mass Effect 2. I loaded my save at the end of the game, running through the last mission. My game is crashing at the loading screen before the Long Road portion of the game, every time with no exception. It states that Mass Effect 2 has stopped working and sends me back to the desktop.
