You know I think this is a mot point. Why make yourself suffer not playing a game that you love just cause of some 10 dollar DLC. I for one am a gamer, I don't have a ton of money to through around. But 10 bucks is not that bad. If you think this is bad you should play broad games or pencil and paper RPGs. 30 bucks an add on is a lot worse. Look if you want to play the game do so. If you think they 10 dollar DLC is an insult fine don't buy the game, but realize that you are making yourself suffer and not EA. They have money rolling in off other games and they won't feel it that much.
LOL my enjoyment in life doesn't begin and end with this game.
I can afford the DLC.
Thats not the point.
I drew a line that should any game company cross than I shall not support them.
Its that simple EA and Bioware crossed that line I'm not supporting them period.
I have plenty of games I will not suffer a second without this game.
Then why complian endlessly about it? You drew the line they went over it fine, but why try to mess with others enjoyment of the game. I have paid for it and will pick it up and play it a lot and enjoy the heck out of it. Does it suck that they are doing day one DLC? Sure it sucks. But if you think you are hurting them that much or your oppinion matters you are mistaken. They will keep on truckin and keep on doing this.

How exactly could somebody saying something like that interfere with your enjoyment of this game? The only reason I can see why this might happen is if there is a little nagging voice in your head telling you that you know that this guy is right.

this is just a misunderstanding between you and him, where you chose to go the insulting route.
he doesnt understand why you are so easy about taking it up the wrong un without a peep.
and
you dont understand he has standards and self esteem that cause him to get irked when someone trys taking him up the wrong un
maybe he earns his money and values it more
maybe you get it as an allowance
you need to understand that earned money has more value than daddys charity

Sunlight, fresh air, an amazing universe, true friendship, family, comfort, love, happiness, ideas, torrents, etc.
Plenty of free stuff in this world. In fact, everything could be free if we as a society really wanted to, if we educated ourselves and others that we work for our own happiness and that of others rather than for money. But hey, some people just don't want to accept that this is possible, and that's why we live in a ****ty world where every tries to rip you off because that's the way the game is played.
And like I said before: I don't think this is about the money, but rather about how this was done. Important content was cut from the game with the eye to sell it to us for more. If they had made the game just five or ten bucks more expensive, only the people who really don't want multiplayer would have complained (attributing the increased price to that feature). Or perhaps they could've let people choose between multiplayer and the squaddie when getting the game, making the other five bucks (really, what is with the ten bucks prices? so bloody expensive...)
Absurd, everything cost something it doesn't always have to be monetary it could cost time or energy which is just as important. Right now I'm posting on this forum when I could be studying for A&P class but thats opportunity cost. (Just food for thought)

I'm going to start with the fact, that I have cancelled my ME3 preorder. It was the only thing I could do to show BioWare, that I disagree with what they did on the 'From Ashes' DLC. I am not against paid DLC, especially such as the 'From Ashes', 'Shadow Broker', 'Kasumi' and 'Overlord'. If 'From Ashes' was released post launch, I think it would have been ok. But that's not what I want to discuss.
'From Ashes' and what they did with is something every gamer out there should be concerned, but I think what's more important is the situation with cosmetic DLC's. Stuff like guns, armors and skins, or even the Genesis DLC. Right now Alternate Appearance Pack 1 and 2 + Firepower Pack + Aegis Pack + Equalizer Pack + Genesis = 1120 MS Points = about 15$ = 1/4 the price of Mass Effect 3. For 15 $ you get an interactive comic, 6 skins and a few guns/armors. What?
Every cosmetic DLC out there should be FREE. It adds polish to the game, nothing more. Nothing can justify such paid DLC's. It's something companies should do to please their customers. Let's be reasonable. 15$ for 6 skins, a 15 minute interactive comic, that's just a small port from the PS3 and a few items. Not a character, not a new planet. 15$ should equal about 10+ hours of solid content.
I know the BioWare Def Force will jump on me now. People will tell me, that it's cheap and no one cares about 15$. It's not about the 15$, it's about where things are going. Back in the days buying games was much more exciting because we knew, that what we bought was the final work of the said dev. Even if the game flopped, we knew that they gave their best and we got the whole package. Right now, you buy Mass Effect 2 or 3, and the excitement is hampered even before launch, because you know that there are bits and pieces missing. Mass Effect 2 was critisicized about the horrible itemization. And they showed us, that they can adress it by creating additional items and skins... but not for free.
Where do we go from here? In what state are games going to be sold 5 years from now? Is this really how we want things to go down? Are we really ok with this? Having to pay 7$ for Arrival is fine, having to pay 2 $ for a sniper rifle is NOT.
I agree. While I'm addicted to Mass Effect and won't abandon the game, I found another way of showing Bioware/EA their dlc politics is not acceptable for me. Just cancelled my SWTOR sub few days ago and when asked about the reasons I mentioned (in additon to other reasons) that I can't support such a greedy company. Like someone mentioned before, it's getting worse each year. Mainly because of the customers doing nothing against it( including me with ME)
PS: I'm absolutely fine with dlc like LOTSB oder Arrivel being developed after the release of the game(althought I miss the good old expansions). But I'm not fine with fee required day 1 dlc.

It get's easier. I must have sunk 200+ hours into the first two Mass Effect games and even after DA2 I was still really looking forward to ME3.
Then the Origin issue came to light and that had me waivering; now we've had the whole "From Ashes" revelation and that's left such a bad taste in my mouth I doubt I'll even miss the game anymore. Maybe if one day in the future it becomes available on steam and I see it in a sale I may still buy it, but in the meantime, I can honestly say that I can take it or leave it.

DLC is here to stay until people stop purchasing, or when the content actually detracts from the main experience. I imagine the prothean squad member will play as just another tool in your army, and he will be quickly forgotten when playing the game out of box. DLC is a bit pricy in comparison to the amount of content, but I would blame your fellow gamer for supporting the business model rather than the creator.

He means comfort in life. Saying I sat in a tree once and it wasn't too bad is much different from I feel comfortable in my general day-to-day life.
I'm happy right now, I'm just not as naive to think that happiness and all those things he listed are free.

So as a consumer from Marcth 6th forward.. I will not be purchasing Bioware games new anymore.
Bioware is entitled to do what they want as buisness but they are not entitled to his have my money. This whole deal feels like a move to get an extra 10 bucks out me..

The fact is that if it sells then it will be made. Hell look at Tf2, an entire economy built upon hats. What I would like to see is dlc being packaged at a discount group rather than retaining the initial price. For Overlord, Kasumi, Arrival and Shadow Broker the entire package costs more than the full game.
As an aside I would like to point out that I bought all that DLC. Some of it offered better value than others, but I made my own decision to buy it based on my love of the game and that's exactly how things should be. I am in no way opposed to DLC.
Parts of a game's gameplay being made before release and reserved for an additional charge on day one is a very different animal.

I agree with the OP. Something has to be done against all this DLC bullcrap or we'll end up paying twice the price of the game to get full experience in few years.
Started with some horse-armour crap and now we get entire character and his story cut out of the game, it's getting worse every year.
I've played Final Fantasy X and XIII-2 in den the last months. While there was a "monsterfarm" in Final Fantasy X with dozens of extra strong monsters you can fight against and several optional rare enemys like the black bestias, Square Enix created in Final Fantasy XIII an empty colloseum which will be filled with fee required dlc monsters in den next months.
So all this extra monsters, which were part of nearly every Final Fantasy are gone and were replaced with dlc. I think this descripes how the development of games changes to get some extra money with dlc. And I predict it will get worse in the next years.Till the customers say "here and no further"

Having to pay 7$ for Arrival is fine, having to pay 2 $ for a sniper rifle is NOT.
cool story bro
