I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but as a default the ME3 demo on my laptop uses the integrated HD graphics instead of my GT540m.  It seems like the optimus tech insn't correctly set up to switch over to the proper card for the demo.

To get around this you can force ME3 to use the proper video card:
1) open up the nvidia control panel (use the search in the start menu)
2) under '3d settings' select 'manage 3d settings'
3) click on the 'program settings' tab
4) find mass effect in the program list and switch it to 'high performance nvidia processor'

I hope this helps someone out.  I spent a few hours looking around on the net before I came up with the solution.  Before I had to run the demo at a lower resolution with the effects off.  Now I can run full res with everything on!

Hi maccayoung!
thanks for the tip, but its not enough!

I got the same config as yours [i got Acer 5742G] but the performance is not good enough.
I have enabled the GPU activity icon on the taskbar which shows which software is using my GT 540M. Luckily ME3 is able to use GT 540M but am not getting a smooth fps. I get an average fps of 30-35 fps.

I have desktop with GTS 250 and a quad core processor. The gameplay is so smooth on my desktop. I get an avg fps of 59! That cause Unreal Engines uses forced VSync ON settings and i'm getting the highest fps [thats my refresh rate] as my avg fps. No lag nothing!

Although I was expecting the game to perform more effective on laptop but it is not.

It's funny to observe that a 200 series processor is performing better than 500 series processor.

I hope someone from bioware can guide us on playing the game on optimus technology

I've already done that (and more), but it still seems like either my computer is still not actually using the graphics card (which is a confirmed issue in other areas for me), or the ridiculous lack of settings for graphics options preventing me from getting a smooth FPS.

Not all Optimus cards can be relied upon. Some of them seemingly will never work at all automatically, and even do a terrible job when supposedly switched into being ON every time. There are a number of very long stories I could tell about nVIDIA, but the fact is, I gave up on them, and avoid wasting my effort, most of the time, with questions about Optimus, which I consider to be a very badly broken concept.

Is the NVS 300M (or 3000M; for some reason it's not consistent) card count as an Optimus card? I'm guessing it does, but making sure is a good idea.

When I can get around to it, I'm going to call Lenovo support about the issue, but it seems like I might want to try NVidia first instead?

All of the Optimus cards are a type of cheat, since they are incomplete. They do not have 2D or standard pre-processing functions, leaving the Intel chip to function in place of the normal "front end" to a proper video card. It is when they are supposed to kick on up into full function for the card's own back end that quite a few of them simply FAIL.

All of the NVS cards are related to "Quadro" cards, which eschew speed in favor of image quality. Those are not intended for gaming on, and the drivers for them don't handle games very well at all. I'll look yours up, but my bet is it's pretty terrible.  (Edit here.  Yes, I was quite right.)

If it's the Quadro NVS 300M, here's that data:

It's an antique, about six years old now.

There is no such card as an "NVS 3000m", although there is a plain Quadro 3000m, and while it is not an antique, it is trash in game playing terms.

Sorry, with either of those, you are out of luck for this game.
