I've been hearing a lot about the ME series over the few years the games have been coming out. The thing is, I only own a PC and PS3 for gaming and my PC is kinda really old and has a hard time running ME1 on any decent spec with laggy textures and gameplay (which ruins it for me).

So I guess what I'm getting at here is, do I have to play ME1 to be able to follow the story of ME2 without missing too many plot defining pieces?

Ps3 version of ME2 has the interactive comic that will get you up to speed on the major plot points.

You can also find some complete playthrough videos (though most are edited to save time) on the net if you'd rather actually see the game play and story line unfold. I believe you can find several on youtube.

You can also read the wiki's summary here. It glazes over a lot of the minor/irrelevant details that would show up in a walkthrough, so it's much easier to follow if you're not actually interested in such things.
